I pick Manny but I could very well see a right hand knock him out like JMM did. Decision Manny.

Manny's speed would trouble Alexis but Manny can't resist a tear up which could cause him huge problems against a puncher of Arguello's class.

If Manny employed movement and boxed conservatively then he could cruise to a points win but when did prime Pac ever really do that? He generally overwhelmed his opposition with volume punching but Morales showed that you could time him and that Manny was too proud to give ground to reset, hence being there to hit. This could spell doom against Arguello who had top shelf power, brilliant accuracy and was elite at picking openings.

I don't often pick against prime Pacman but Alexis Arguello is one person I would favour over him. I've always thought a Johnny Famechon type, who fought defensively, had brilliant footwork and movement, was excellent at slipping punches and kept his chin in check at all times would be a bigger stylistic problem for an Arguello rather than a whirlwind firebrand who can't resist a brawl like Manny.

It'd be a brilliant fight though, that's for sure.

Give me Flaco. I'm with everyone here. Once be adjusts to the speed it's only a matter of time.

Completely unknown and impossible fight to pick styles wise. Manny struggles with straight right hands. Arguello struggles with speed.

So, we just have no idea.

I sure don't think Manny likes that brutal left hook to the body this guy threw. He had a lot more in his arsenal than that big right hand===he just used that punch to finish fights. Same here w/ Manny---hurt to the body and gets tagged with a big right hand once that mobility slows down from the bodypunching effects from Arguello.

Great fight but I see Arguello stopping Manny in the later rounds.

I'm old school. I remember when Arguello because champion. Great fighter. Hand speed and power. Plus, Arguello was easy to hit. No movement at all. Manny would just beat his ass.

I disagree, he had very nuanced defense for a tall and lanky fighter.

This is a horrible style matchup for Pac. I dont see any path to victory for him. Arguello will have the distance measured scoring points in the long game. Pac does have the hand speed advantage so he will be bouncing in getting off his 3 to 5 punch combos and bouncing right back out, often leaving him self open for counters. AA is too accurate and powerful in both hands. He Kos Pac in 9 . For Pac, It will be like fighting El Terrible on steroids.

I see it like Morales 1 as well. Pacquiao will have some success with his speed but Arguello would be too classy for him, I see him using his length to keep Pac at bay, UD Arguello

Ganigan who was a Southpaw and a hard hitter dropped Arguello and stunned him.

Ramirez another Southpaw dropped Arguello at Lightweight and probably should've won the decision IMO.

I know Arguello did have success vs other Southpaws at Lightweight like Boza-Edwards, Navarrete, Watt.

But the Ramirez, Ganigan, fights do give me some pause.

If this takes place at Lightweight which is where Pacquiao really started to peak IMO then it's more of a pick em fight. Pacquiao's angles, speed, power, would give Arguello alot of problems.

But Arguello has significant height, reach, advantages. And whilst Pacquiao has a good chin i don't think he's ever fought a fighter with the height/reach of Arguello who's in their prime with real dangerous KO power.

    Hi Buddy.
Well thought out prognosis thank you, and not without some merit, I original felt that Arguello would prevail, albeit in a tough contest not without some danger for the smooth boxing Nicaraguan , but your illuminating post, has got me thinking, I still slightly favour Alexis but wouldnt be surprised if Pac pulled of a victory, via points or late stoppage similar to Pryor, both would have known they were in a fight, whatever the result.
    stay safe buddy, chat soon.
    Mike.
