In much the same fashion as he did Foreman? 1995 The WBC heavyweight title fight. Oliver McCall takes on Tommy Morrison. Can he defeat the unpredictable Bull, much the same way he beat old Foreman?
Maybe, if he fought like he did against Foreman. I think his chances are about 20/80, so his chances aren't good. I think it would be pretty much a replay of the Mercer fight.
McCall wasn't hard to outbox. If Morrison boxed and refused to engage ala the Foreman fight then he’d probably have enough to outpoint Oliver. If he mixed it up then he’d likely gas out and probably get the Mercer treatment again. Interesting fight actually.
This is about the worst possible match-up that I could imagine for Morrison. McCall had an iron chin, decent stamina and was physically strong. The closest match-up that Morrison had to this was Ross Puritty and he struggled to gain a draw with him in a pretty decent, underrated fight. I like Morrison's chances in a 10 rounder as McCall could be outboxed but he would have to be firing on all cylinders to gain a close decision.
If Morrison did win, I think it’d be much akin to how Bruno won too. Score enough early on and hold on for dear life.
This. Tommy was actually a pretty good boxer when he wanted to be. If he followed a gameplan and just patiently piled up the points, he could certainly get a decision over McCall.
I think he could .. McCall almost never seemed to go full blast .. Tony would have to be in his best shape because no one stopped McCall .. Oliver , unlike Mercer, rarely exploded though ..
Watch the Puritty-Morrison fight. Morrison dominated early and then was knocked down twice in the 10th and they fought to a draw. Great fight.
It’s not impossible if he opted to box McCall as he did foreman. But in all likelihood the Duke would go out there seeking the Knockout and it would backfire.
