Terence Crawford announces retirement

Careful he might do a clap back response tomorrow.

 

i get that boxing promotion is a sleazy business, but hes not promoting anything here, hes just being a mutt. i expect better from a man of his age and seniority in the sport. i was a huge fan of his when he was fighting, but hes dead set on being a degenerate now. half the time hes on camera he looks wired out of his skull, and he posts on social media like an obnoxious teen.

 

Oscar was never undisputed in any division. He bitter.

 

Let's be real. The haters have been hoping and praying that Father Time would deal Crawford his first loss. They feel that him retiring at 38 has cheated them from that satisfaction. Oscar himself retired at 35 years old after getting obliterated by Pacquiao so why should he whine when Crawford retires at 38?

 

People shouldn't, but a lot of people don't like the idea of athletes retiring when they still appear at their best. Oscar looked washed towards the end of his career, Terrence is just coming off his biggest career win.

 

First he was underappreciated with lots of undeserved haters and not getting the opponents he wanted because pbc shut him out.

Now he is overrated by many as p4p #1, when in my eyes usyk and also inoue proved more, fighting against bigger opponents, while Crawford used to fight smaller opponents and fought canelo with a similar size. Canelo was also very very much on the slide. Still a good win, but the madrimov fight puts the actual quality into question as much as canelos last few fights and choice of opposition. It was a freak fight between an aged fighter and a Crawford that used to make weight like crazy and now didn't for Canelo.

Considering what p4p stands for, bivol should actually be ahead of crawford, too. Ge beat - and schooled - ramirez who then went on to capture a title in cruiserweight 20 pounds above. Basically all his opponents were bigger than him, unlike with crawford. And beterbiev wasn't half as faded as canelo was.

To crawford fans this will sound like hate, but for years I was annoyed with the crawford haters. He was a joy to watch. But I could never quite get on bord with the canelo matchup. Boots would have been way more interesting. And the scoring in the madrimov fight wasn't my cup of tea either...

All in all I have enjoyed his career before these jumps in weight tremendously. What came after is a bit of a circus and overrating to me. He was/is a great fighter.

Last thing: I wonder whether this is a real retirement or one like fury's. The cash cow fighters where crawford belongs now for the first time in his career like to use this to milk the promoters and probably evade certain controls in the meantime, so we'll see...

 

It's a good thing P4P isn't even real or consistently measured thing to begin with I guess.

 

You don't appreciate real talent when you see it.

 

You have to leave at your best, at 38 the clock is ticking and he only had bigger guys to fight, how long would that have taken, more greats should have got out sooner as should Usyk.

 

It’s as close to perfect as you can get, and it shows the he really was all about the boxing, he didn’t chase the money.
Say what you want about him but I don’t think there were any fights that were even close, if anyone can be bothered to check I would bet he’s probably lost the least amount of rounds in career percentages.
I love him more for this

 

If you think that about him then you don’t know Crawford, he says he’s done he’s done.
He doesn’t belong in a sentence with fury.

That's what I appreciate about Bud. Fights to challenge himself and isn't just for the money but for his place amongst the other greats. If he was really driven by money he would have pushed for the Canelo rematch immediately but Crawford's already satisfied with where he's at and there's really no reason for him to keep going at 38.

Only fight I can think of that was considered "close" was the Madrimov fight but even then Crawford clearly won it.

 

Agreed but many boxing fans hate boxers who leave before they are dragged out of the ring. Ali is the ultimate example of someone who should have retired earlier than they did.

 

I’m with you, personally I don’t think the Madrimov fight was that close, but there was more for him to figure out, it could have been close if madrimov threw more and connected with cleaner shots but he was so focused on not letting Crawford find a rhythm that he couldn’t, and that is something that I think gets missed.
He’s not just the greatest boxer of his generation but he is now the greatest champion, walking away with all that money still on the table speaks volumes of what he is about.
I’m sad that it’s over but I’m happy that he didn’t let Father Time cheat him.
I have been watching his YouTube channel and watching him go around the world and showing respect to their cultures and traditions and I had a feeling that he was probably going to retire, I didn’t want it but now it’s happened I’m glad.
