Mike Tyson vs Oleksandr Usyk objective resume comparison

Bit of context needed either way you choose,
For starters Spinks, Holmes, Joshua, Fury, and Bellew were all varying degrees of past prime

 

Who did Tyson beat? Trevor Burbick? A LHW Spinks?

He's the most overrated fighter in history. Would Usyk be KOd by Buster Douglas? Kevin McBride? An aging Holyfield with Heart Problems?

People bought into this aura around Tyson.

 

No doubt Tyson’s resume is weak, but some context is required. The fact he did it so young and in such dominant fashion, not to mention how regularly he was fighting. Unless you lived it, it’s hard to appreciate how impressive he was at the time.

 

Dubois, Joshua and Gassiev are all massive punchers. With Ruddocks poor defense he's not likely to fight them 5 times without some losses via kayo. Lewis blew him away effortlessly, a shot Smith nearly took him out.

I also don't see how his wins can compare with Dubois even if you want to crap on the present era. A prime Joshua is surely still better than badly faded versions of Dokes and Smith (who still nearly took him out)

 

Rahman lost to Oleg Maskaev twice, the same Maskaev that lost to Corey Sanders and Lance Whitaker.

Moorer never fought at cruiserweight

 

It's not hard to have a better record than Tyson as his record really wasn't that great. In his prime, he blew most of those fighters away though so that definitely counts for something. We never got to see his true prime either as he stopped giving a feck at like 23yr old.

What exactly is the OP trying to prove.

Usyk is a great fighter but I don't think he beats prime Tyson at heavyweight.
Prime Holyfield beats him also.
Prime Lewis comfortably beats him.
Prime Vitali Klitschko beats him
Prime Wladamir also beats him comfortably as Usyk doesn't have the power to trouble him.
The Foreman that obliterated prime Norton and Frazier beats him
Prime 60's Ali was on another level and just too talented for Usyk

Usyk is an all time great but those big lumps he's been fighting at Heavyweight would've been absolutely demolished if they fought in the 90s.

 

This is the definition of a one sided analysis. Lets not pretend those guys are defensive geniuses. And NONE of them are Lennox, so what he did to Rudduck is irrelevant.

 

Oleg was a top contender and respected HW back then. No need to try rewrite history now.

 

One suspects they are better than a faded overweight Smith coming off a loss to Adilson Rodrigues who hadn't scored a quality win in years and didn't do anything subsequently. Despite that he nearly stopped Ruddock

There is obviously also the problem of Ruddocks very poor resume consisting guys who were no longer relevant at world level.

 

The only thing remotely impressive in Maskaevs career are the wins over Rahman. He didn't do anything else of substance. What's the second best guy he beat? Third? The rest of his resume consists of journeyman types like Sinam samil Sam and Alex Stewart.

I don't think anyone would even remember him without the Rahman wins.

 

Objective ... there is not even a comparision between mike tyson and usyk at heavy . It would be an insult to iron mike .

It's easy to look back and poo-poo boxers after the fact. Guessing you weren't around back then. What has Dubois done that's so impressive in his career? KO a guy everyone calls chinny? And Gassiev? Beat some guys not really tested? See how easy that is?
Maybe Gassiev and Dubois continue to have better careers. But right now, it's not like they have done ANYTHING to show they are better than Razor Ruddock. Hell, Dubois been KO'd three times himself as well.

 

All you do is mention Ruddock. What' has Dubois done that leaves you so much more impressed? You can boxrec your way through records if you want. I was watching the fights back then. I was seeing their rankings and reputations being built.

 

I was gonna say it’s about how iron mike dealt with a lot of world class opponents in beautifully devastating fashion, however Usyk has his own beautiful style so it’s apples and pears or whatever people prefer or both.

 

Maskaev could easily knock Fury down, probably outbox him too. He just had a weak chin. Luckily Fury has a weak punch.
