I watched the fight and I actually had it 8-7 Duran.

The first 5 rounds Hagler didn't do much and Duran was way more active.
    6-8 was al lhagler
    9th,12th,14th I gave to Duran
    10th,11th,13th,15th

Not crazy but I believe Hagler won narrowly. A lot of people felt the same way you did

I can’t remember the rounds I scored for either, but I had it exactly the same.
There were several very close, almost nothing rounds but where Duran landed the only solid punches.
Round for round which is how we score, I had it Duran too

I’ve said it before but I think a younger Duran could have done even better against Hagler, I think he could’ve have ‘Robinson-La Motta’d’ him, giving away weight but just being too quick and clever. Hagler would have come on strong again of course. Most will not agree, and I’m a fan of Hagler but Duran was so clever.

I'd say a solid 8/10 crazy. I had Hagler winning 10 rounds to 5. Time has changed peoples perception of this fight and Duran seems to get a lot of credit that I believe he's not due. After a typically aggressive performance against Davey Moore, the expectation was the Hagler, a consummate matador against an onrushing opponent, would box and counter Duran's rushes and probably be the first man to stop him, or at least, give him a good beating. Duran wisely boxed uncharacteristically cautiously/negatively and tried to play the counterpuncher role himself in an effort to survive and go the distance. Hagler, a little in awe of Duran's legend, overdid the cautiousness himself and didn't press the action enough. It's telling that in the post fight interview in the ring, Duran immediately says no when asked if he wants a rematch. Why not, the money would have been even bigger? Because he knew he got away with with it. It's romanticism to think Duran fought his heart out and was robbed of a win. The truth is he boxed to go the distance and almost pulled the wool over the judges eyes. Sugar Ray Leonard did a better job at this 4 years later.

The other thing I also gave Duran credit for was just how much he made Hagler miss.

Also, I kind of am happy that Hagler won ,how embarrising would it be for the all time great Middleweight to be beat by a Lightweight

I have to rewatch it, but I agree it would have been a bit of an unsatisfying win for Duran even if one could say he sneaked it, which I think he maybe did.

A nice write up. Agree that Hagler at that stage of Durans career probably gave him a bit too much credit and would have wanted to shut up his critics in a rematch and gone Hearns fight mode on him.
Duran did a great job of confusing him though, and making him miss as has been said.
Definitely don’t agree with the 10-5, there were a lot of close rounds where if you had to choose a winner, it wasn’t Hagler. Hagler won his rounds bigger though.
The Leonard fight Hagler gave it to him really, do you have the first four rounds for Leonard? Hagler just gave him too much of a lead to pull it back.

I have Leonard 1,2,4. Round 3 was very close. Hagler won the first two minutes. Leonard flurries won the last minute. I lean Hagler, possibly a drawn round. I don't like to score rounds a draw though, hence I lean Leonard round 1

Another perspective is how well Hagler did connecting, considering 1. Duran was always underrated defensively, 2. Duran was the smaller, quicker man, and 3. Duran deliberately boxed defensively, almost the polar opposite of his fight style against Moore.

This was my scorecard when i watched this fight again awhile ago.

    Marvin Hagler vs Roberto Duran

    1 Duran
    2 Hagler
    3 Duran
    4 Duran
    5 Hagler
    6 Hagler
    7 Hagler
    8 Hagler
    9 Hagler
    10 Hagler
    11 Duran
    12 Duran
    13 Duran
    14 Hagler
    15 Hagler

    144-141 Hagler

So i decided to watch this fight again after discussing Hagler recently, i have to say this was a much better fight than i remembered. Duran i felt did well early on when it was more of a boxing match, he was able to land some good body shots and pot shot Hagler on the outside with right hands.

After 5th round i thought it was all Hagler as he decided to stop having a boxing match with Duran, and come out as the aggressor and simply out punched Duran between rounds 5-10.

Now strangely in the 11th round Hagler came out dancing ? and virtually threw nothing in this round giving that round away. And that seemed to turn the momentum in Duran's favour as it turned into more of a boxing match again, as Duran once again was able to pot shot Hagler with right hands to win rounds 11-13 pretty clearly for me.

Hagler sensing the fight was getting closer and probably learning from Antuofermo fight how to pace himself, came out in rounds 14-15 giving it all he had emptying the gas tank to clearly win rounds 14-15.

Overall a pretty entertaining fight and much better than i remember as i said, Hagler showed some good defence parrying Duran's right hand. And Duran himself showed some good elusive skills rolling with Hagler's punches.

Hagler didn't really do much of anything in the first 5. All he did was miss some and Duran was just more active. Hagler for some reason decided to be random after round 11....for some reason? I don't know why?

I honestly think Marvin could have knocked him out. It honestly seemed like he went in with the wrong gameplan due to Duran's previous fight.
It honestly was a bit embarrising how close it was(in my opinion) as we are talking about a lightweight here. And why Marvin would dance around a lightweight as much as he did as if he was scared, is even stranger.

I don't know, I just thought this was the weirdest fight I have ever seen honestly, because it just made no sense.

But then again Barkley tried to trade with Duran and he had some success staggering him. But Hagler woudln't have been knocked down so

How did you give Duran the 15th round ? Hagler was the only one doing all the fighting in that round ? Duran did nothing in that round Hagler out punched him 2 to 1 it was a comprehensive round for Hagler.

Unless I'm reading it wrong and you gave Duran the 14th round ? But that's also just as bad IMO.

There's no way Duran has any argument to winning rounds 14 or 15. Hagler fought like a man possessed in those last 2 rounds to make sure of the decision and comprehensively won those final 2 rounds.
