Because he didn't use the same strategy. He stood in the middle of the ring, parrying, blocked and rolled with AJ's shots and made him pay over and over again. It's called outboxing him!
Usyk did not use a similar strategy. Usyk refused to give up ground. Usyk did back peddle at times when he was hurt. But for the majority of the fight, Usyk was holding himself in the center of the ring. Usyk was feinting quite well, fenting with his jab and then nailing Joshua with overhand lefts through the gap, then exiting to his right. Jake Paul hardly threw any punches. He wasn't feinting with his lead hand very much. He threw a couple of nice overhand rights but not many. He wasn't moving side to side as much as he was back peddling. He hardly landed a body shot.
Usyk literally stands in the pocket and confuses fighters it’s rare you actually see him on his bicycle doing laps apart from when he’s been hurt a few times and recomposes himself. He sort of has an offensive defense going on.
Simply by moving off the line I guess, but staying in fighting distance and delivering his own well-timed attacks. Jake did well to avoid AJ's punches; I'm impressed with his reflexes and pivoting ability, and of course his whiskers are decent. Also his punch timing is commendable; he hit AJ a few times and took AJ by surprise. He just ran out of gas, and he's only 6ft. AJ is super limited and the fact portions of the fight were actually competitive, where some AJ looked pretty horrible in, is pretty embarrassing for him. Paul can fight for a title and maybe Fury is better than we thought. But I think it's pretty much down to the fact Paul is in his prime and has improved tremendously since Fury. Side note, AJ is horrible to listen to on the mic. Spit it out alresdy - it's not genius philosophy you're imparting Josh, geez. If Paul had another 5 yrs behind him and better cardio he might actually beat AJ one out of ten fights.
You see what Jake Paul did? Yeah, the opposite. Those little tiny steps Usyk takes repositioning and moving his head whilst standing in the pocket im telling you, they are what messes everybody up. You are watching a absolute Boxing genius at work, especially when he fights big men. I think big men bring out the best in Usyk, no diddy.
He actually reminds me of pacman a little when he kind of sways off centre and twitches just out of range, I don’t know if there’s a name for the technique.
