Absolutely. A faster pace and second or third round ko would have looked better

100% he was. Clearly pulling his punches throughout!! Even the final punch was only delivered at 60% at max. Fight was as embarrassing to boxing as I thought it would be. Commentators made it sound like it was Rocky Balboa v Apollo Creed in the ring.....all showbiz and razzamatazz nonsense from start to finish

And boxing purists would have said no to that much cash for doing so?

The difference was Ngannou came to fight and got hit with shots he didn't see coming. He was already scrambled before the final KO punch.

People are so desperate for a conspiracy theory. Seen a lot of "this is what would have happened if Tyson didn't hold back" comments, as if Mike Tyson isn't a 60 year old man with health issues.

I don't believe any of Jake Paul's fights are scripted.

Nah, Youtube's resume just got better than MMA. An MMA fighter only went 2 rounds, but a Youtuber went 6 rounds. Youtube produces tougher fighters than UFC!
It's a good thing Fury never fought The Nostolgia Critic. He would have knocked him out cold.

Pretty much this - it very much looked like AJ was carrying JP, hence not cutting off the ring and not throwing the big counters when we all know he could've.

I guess the real question is "why"?

And we'll never know, we can only speculate.

It doesn't seem unreasonable to suggest that not completely ruining any kind of spectacle by blowing him out early might've been pre-planned...

It also looks like he's tried to do it without throwing his punches full force.
If we're honest, we all knew he wouldn't need full power to knock out Paul - even with a pretty respectable chin (which JP seems to have) you're talking about a much bigger man with huge power by the standards of much bigger men.
    So... Why?
It could be a gentleman's agreement to not hurt the guy too bad - it could just be that AJ just doesn't want the mental anguish of having a body on his record... And a fairly defenceless one at that.

And that's another thing - this wasn't an ordinary fight... It's one thing going into the ring knowing you have to hurt the other guy bad to avoid him hurting you - it's another entirely going in there with a guy who has basically no chance and trying to get the job done without going OTT and killing the guy.

The whole thing is a farce, it always was, and trying to read too much into it as a serious fight is meaningless...

We can talk for days, and probably will, about why it looked like it did, but it's not really telling us anything useful... So, just like any other JP farce, we can chat **** for fun, but it's just another chapter in a sideshow.

That and... You could argue that it makes sense for it to be a "controlled demolition", of sorts - no sane man wants bodies on their record.

If you were fighting someone much smaller, defenceless and not presenting any real threat to you... Would you punch full force for the heck of it and damn the consequences?

he broke Jake’s jaw in two places. Pics of the x ray are posted up on The Ring’s YouTube feed.

My opinion is that rounds 1-4 were AJ holding back, rounds 5-6 were real-ish (they were real, but AJ wasn’t throwing full power). And he still broke Jake’s jaw. That’s why weight classes exist.

Why would they be scripted? He's only beaten the elderly or people who aren't even boxers.

Both times he's faced an active boxer he's lost.

That KO punch was little more than a flicker jab, a love tap in return for Paul’s repeated trying to go down on him.
Joshua probably terrified he killed him and miss out on his bonus and first pick of the Paul bros femboy fighting championship fighters

It's because you know I'm right. If you were manufacturing a fake boxing career you'd be getting some reputable journeymen on your resume not Tyrone Woodley and Ben Askren.
