I really like Finito. He's one of my favorites and I actually think his resume is a little underrated. But there's just no way for him to move past any of the other five given who he faced.

 

I hate to say it aswell but how much competition is there with fighters weighing only 105 pounds ?

Lopez should've moved up sooner and challenged the likes of Carbajal.

You can’t be serious.

 

I appreciate Floyd as a boxer but hated his negotiations tactics, getting credit for struggling with older fighters, catchweights, all that. On paper he has a far better record than Marciano, but in reality it’s a lot closer and I just prefer Marciano

 

How the hell can people have Ward and Crawford over Rocky Marciano? wtf.

 

erm because he's a greater fighter.

 

Nah, you just dislike Floyd. The only way to get Marciano over Floyd is through a mental gymnastics routine using the same arguments you just have about what Floyd did outside the ring, instead of looking at his actual body of work. Marciano's resume is littered with twice as many asterisks and half as many good wins. He beat up on ghosts.

 

Marciano - Clear number 1
Mayweather - clear number 2
Lopez - clear last place

Calzaghe, Ward and Crawford - could be in any order 3-5, they are all the same level imo.

 

I understand.

Floyd is very unlikeable.

Rocky was very likeable.

I studied his career a long time ago.

Floyd was a diva.

A safety first businessman in the second half of his career.

Whereas IMHO, Rocky would have fought any HW in history, and gone at them like a freight train.

However, we have to be objective and remove any emotion from our picks.

Unless you’re purely ranking on who your favourites are, we have to use certain criteria.

I don’t like Floyd.

However, I rank on the following:

Ability
Overall resume
Wins
Accomplishments
Longevity

That’s the criteria that I use, which is really traditional ranking criteria that the majority of people use.

Floyd had way more technical ability. Much better skills. He had a much better, deeper resume. Much better longevity etc.

Neither of them fought a prime ATG.

Floyd could have done, in Manny. But he left it too late. That’s my opinion.

Yes, he fought faded greats. But that’s exactly what Rocky did.

Now it wasn’t Rocky’s fault of course, but he happened to fight in one of the weakest eras of HW history.

Look at his best wins.

They were over great fighters, but ones who were faded with a ton of mileage. And outside of those, he fought mostly low level fighters.

I’m a huge fan of Louis, Charles and Moore.

Rocky fought a version of Archie Moore, who’d had around 180 fights! Who was in his prime between MW-HW.

He fought a 36 year old Louis, who’d had almost 70 fights.

Although he fairly won those fights, he did so on youth and power.

He wasn’t better than them on a P4P basis. But an old, former MW with a ton of mileage, just couldn’t keep him off.

Yet you can see in his fights with both Charles and Moore, that he struggled at times, where it’s very easy to imagine where he’d have really struggled against a prime ATG HW from a later era.

So although I respect him for what he did, we need some perspective.

He can’t be ranked above Floyd.

Floyd was just a better fighter, who had a far better resume and overall career.

 

One of the smallest heavy champs, shortest reach, I think that he scores extra points for that.
I don’t like Mayweather as a boxer even if he is better Rocky is greater.
Rocky might lose to some of the bigger heavies, Floyd would lose to plenty of greats his stature though.
Then you have this comment like yours every time someone puts someone else above Mayweather in a list they just hate him.
Also he deserves to be taken down a peg just for saying he’s the Goat in all seriousness when he’s nowhere near.

 

What criteria are you using?

Better how?

He had nowhere near the level of ability that Floyd had.

He hasn’t got a better overall resume or a better group of top wins.

He didn’t have the longevity that Floyd had.

So what’s the criteria?

He can’t rank higher than Floyd.

He never beat a great genuine HW in his career who was young or in their prime.
