AJ was the solid bookies favourite before their first fight. I think they looked a lot into Usyk V Chisora.
I thought Usyk would be robbed on score cards same way I felt Bivol would against canelo. sometimes it doesn’t pay to be cynical.
With silly people AJ was the clear favourite I thank the UK Bookies that night for gifting me a big pay day
I remember a recommending a pal of mine to bet on Usyk for the upset. The odds were very good on fight day, so he bet a tenner. He came out with half a ton. He messaged me saying: “If you told me tomorrow that cheese was going to be the next big thing, I’d quit my job and start hustling crackers”.
The implied robbery odds must be considered. Keep in mind that Usyk beat the **** out of Joshua in the second fight and walked away with a SPLIT DECISION. Never count out bull**** with a cash cow like Joshua.
AJ was favourite Usyk hadn't dealt with a heavy on his level yet and Usyk had a few lapses during his first few years at heavy which would not be acceptable...but now it's clear that Chisora is better than AJ anyway.
Anthony Joshua was a big favorite many (myself included) didnt think that Usyk would do well at heavyweight Especially after struggling vs Chisora
Joshua was the favourite Usyk didn't look overly impressive in his first 2 professional Heavyweight fights. Usyk didn't dazzle vs Chazz Witherspoon really. And then Usyk struggled against Chisora yes I know people like to say now that Chisora got dominated but that simply isn't true. Alot of people had Chisora winning 4 rounds and he landed more punches on Usyk than any other fighter at that point in his career other than Briedis. Some people also weren't really aware of Usyk's WSB Heavyweight fights. I have to admit I hadn't really paid much attention to the WSB fights until I started rewatching Usyk's career in the past few years. So if you're looking at it without hindsight and if you weren't really aware of the WSB fights. Then I can see why some people had Joshua as the favourite. Usyk was considered to have no power at Heavyweight and he didn't overly impressive in his first two professional Heavyweight fights.
