Nothing has ever topped the FOTC. The intense hype fueled by the political and social climate of the time combined with 2 superb undefeated fighters going head to head in a brutal war make this the greatest event in the sport's history. AND the greatest victory--Joe Frazier's performance will stand the test of time!! (And Ali's as well!!)

I still marvel at how the event not only lived up to the worldwide hype-it surpassed it!

 

RJJ mugging Toney is right up there in terms of two bonafide HOF meeting each other with best fighter in the world up for grabs of recent times.

This isn't going to be popular, but I was a big fan of Rigondeaux and whilst he went up in weight, what Loma did to him was insane.

 

Prime Loma was very special.

 

Moreso than his record.

Rigo was a special fighter and Loma treated him like a little brother.

 

Wanna add some old ones.

John L Sullivan vs Jake Kilrain

Still a pretty known fight despite how long ago it happened.

Joe Gans vs Battling Nelson I

Probably one of the best wins I can think of that had a DQ ending.

Dempsey vs Carpentier

Record breaking fight that helped make on of boxings biggest stars.

 

Ezzard Charles vs Charley Burley I & II, Archie Moore I, II, & III, Lloyd Marshall II & III, Joe Louis, Joe Walcott I & II + a bunch of wins over Bivins and Maxim.

 

You can't have this list without joe choynski appearing.

Probably his victory over Godfrey 1892. He came off the deck like 5-6 times and just overcame all setbacks to muscle out a knockout win.
It was the stuff of boxing giants.

The olden fighters would rule this category as many like choynski had a couple dozen knockdowns only to overcome.

this is up there with Douglas Tyson in that Frazier was as highly revered as Tyson. Both were unbeaten. Frazier whipped Ali while Tyson had his Spinks, and Berbick.

Frazier over Ali (most publicized fight of all time). Could the limited but powerful infighter prevail over the speedy and once mighty but ring rusty Ali?

Hagler - Hearns. The most explosive action ever seen in a superfight. This was a pick 'em fight because of the brutal outcome of Tommy's fight with Duran. never had he looked better hile Hagler was now seen as vulnerable. Not the invincible fighter he used to be with sky high abilities.

Hearns KO2 Duran - if it isn’t the best win ever it’s still gotta be the greatest ko ever.
