He did. Bumlanga´s overall official punch stats were bad, but he actually landed a lot of good counters on Canelo that forced Canelo to constantly reset.
It wasn´t a necessarily competitive fight on the scorecards, but Canelo was not comfortably in control of the fight either. Canelo had to brawl with Berlanga, and since when is Canelo a brawler?

I don't remember Berlanga winning any rounds and he got floored. He stayed in there and landed shots but he's way bigger than Canelo. I don't think I'd say Canelo struggled, he looked comfortable for the most part

It seems you confuse my wording with me arguing that it was a competitive fight, it was not. Canelo clearly won the majority of the rounds, and rather convincingly. My point is that he struggled tho, because Berlanga continually countered him with good punches and Berlanga managed to drag Canelo into a brawl. Of course Canelo overwhelmed him and forced him to focus on defense rather than offense.
If it were as easy as you say it was then it would have looked more like the Callum Smith fight.

Canelo actually struggled with John Ryder. His face was busted up by the end and Ryder finished stronger. That should have been evidence to anyone with a brain he was done. An elite fighter should have ran though Ryder. Canelo fans lived in denial for many years even while Canelo was blatantly ducking Benavidez. He knew his own limitations.

I put him well above Crawford, guy was a wrecking machine and great boxer as well. But I agree it would have been nice to see him against another elite boxer in his prime

Bad timing and being short. Too green for Mayweather, too shopworn (and too short) for Bivol, way too shopworn for Crawford and his long ass arms.

Half the reason he lost to Crawford was the reach issue. He just couldn't get past Crawford being able to pick him off from a distance he couldn't land at.

Canelo should be embarrassed to suggest he’d be anything more than a stain on the seat of Juan Roldans trunks.

He isn’t a power puncher and I’ll die on that hill

61% KO rate is slightly above average in that category
