Pryor KO'd his world class oponents who were still in decent nick late on in fights. In his first fight with Arguello it took him 14 rounds of a war with a smaller lighter hitting, than Leonard, in Alexis to stop him. But he would stop a fighter in the weight class above who was better at nearly everything than Arguello? :huh Yeah I was talking about how many times the 1 punch knock out artist hit Leonard. He could fight with one of the greatest infighters of all time, a guy who would have beat Pryor inside, Duran, but he cannot fight with Pryor to the point he gets stopped. Ridiculous.
Think I'd have to go with Leonard. Don't think Leonard wanted too much of Pryor at any stage. Have to look at their respective opponents to see who fought and beat better. I'm not a big fan of Leonard and would have loved if Pyor could have got to him and beaten him but i think Leonard would have just enough to see him through. It'd be close though especially as the Hawk was very hungry for recognition and respect, both of which he'd have received had he beaten Leonard.
Always felt sorry for Pryor over this as it always tainted his best win. Don't think he even needed it as think it was the hawks night that night. Not sure he could have been denied.
Yes your right, I remember watching this fight on World of Sport in it's entirety not knowing the result . My heart went out to Arguello but Pryor was unstoppable.
Yeah you gotta love Alexis what a true champ. Aaron was just awesome that night and just seemed to will himself to victory. That's one one of the few things that he had Leonard completely beaten in-determination. He just seemed to have an hunger and desire to prove he was the best, stemming from the missed chance of an olympic place. Leonard on the other hand was the golden boy and loved by all. Think Pryor always felt overshadowed by him.
I would probably have to side with logic and that means Leonard, but I wouldn't rule Pryor out completely. Duran was a smaller man, and he managed to beat peak Leonard. I don't think it is outwith the realm of possibility that Pryor could have produced something special and shocked Leonard. Pryor was a beast! I wish he had got the big fights, he would have surprised many I think.
Yeah got to agree with you. Leonard always seemed to have it in him to pull off the win. The first Hearns fight is one of the best examples of him reaching down deep and producing the goods. In fairness to Leonard he could pretty much do it all. Just something about him that always aggravated me, bit like Pac in that respect.
Power generally decreases as you go up in weight there champ. Take some time off to learn boxing before speaking on it. It's only logical.
Funny how Pryor has reached "god like" proportions on forums in recent memory. Take it with a grain of salt. Pryor was good but he only had a few notable wins. At 147 he didn't prove anything (of course this was at the very end of his career). Pryor just did not have the tools necessary to beat SRL and I could not conceivably pick him to win this fight in any way. SRL would take his punches, outbox him and outslick him. Pryor would have been an opponent to make SRL look magnificent.
your power doesn't decrease, the opponents you face can take a better punch when you go up in weight. your power stays the same or increases, take guzman for example, in the lower divisons he could KO people with his power, but now as he has moved the most he probably can do is stun a fighter, not because he has lost some of his power but because his opponents can take a better punch. It's only logical.
