Terence Crawford / Errol Spence - Serious Question

Car wreck always puts an asterisk over the win for most people and wasn't something they could predict while letting the fight marinate.

Spence is a partier, he never had a chance vs crawford.

 

I knew Spence wasn't in Crawford tier when I saw him blackout wasted at a samstown showbox.

 

1,2,5 years earlier, make your pick, I don’t think the result would have been different

 

Spence was an alcoholic drunkard, who had physical and mental injuries from the car crash.

He was a ghost of the fighter who beat Brook.

 

for a significant span of time, he was that guy at 147. he was the real deal. but come on, he was going over 100 mph without a seat belt when he rolled his ferrari and got slingshot across a neighborhood. its a miracle that he didnt break bones other than his grill. but he did say the worst part was the trauma to his muscles. and he was listed in critical condition in the hospital.
then 3 months later he gets rear ended by a car that he said shook him up. and the following year some kid who took his parents car ran head on into him while sitting at a light and totaled his vehicle. injured spences leg. poor guy probably pees a little every time he hears screeching brakes.
i was spences biggest fan here so i wanted to believe he hadnt been too damaged. but he didnt respond to blows the same way anymore. and the quick footwork wasnt there either. still, i chalked it up to him just working out some kinks. but i wasnt prepared for what i saw from him against bud. he looked completely unprepared. and it wasnt because of bud. bud was bud and he did his thing, but spence wasnt there that night.

 

Spence told Crawford to his face he would collect the other belts since the other fights are easier to make (PBC) then face Crawford. That’s what he did but it took longer than expected because of the car crash, detached retina and inactivity. Crawford could have gotten the fight sooner had he left Top Rank instead of resigning but he was trying to get the Pacquiao fight. He probably thought if he got it, his name would be on the map and everyone else would want to see him. Took a big risk there and it backfired. When he finally did leave Top Rank and the Spence fight happened, Crawford did his thing. I don’t know if the fight would have looked like that had Spence been at his best. I think he makes it a tougher fight personally but we will never know.

 

If Spence had won, people would've talked about Gamboa hurting Crawford and the fact that Spence only fought a Crawford who'd literally been shot in the head first. And they would've been right.

No. He WAS ADVERTISED as you described, but those who know boxing saw a ton of hype. Saw a guy who went life and death w Porter, a guy who was life and death w Kell Brook after he was weight drained and faded in the fight. A Spence that couldnt hurt LW Mikey Garcia. Yeah, nah. Those who know boxing knew Al and Floyd were protecting Errol from being sacrificed - the SAME REASON Al didnt let Keith Thurman or Danny Garcia fight Crawford. Hell, Porter had to wait like 5 years. They knew what was coming and it ONLY happened because Spence forced the issue.

 

Yes, PBC/Al Haymon literally teased Bud Crawford about "crossing the street" in reference to refusing to fight Bud since he was w a different promotional company. That was Spence, Thurman, AND Danny Garcia - all collectively DUCKING. The worst part? A large portion of fans bought it. And, in doing so, they missed an ATG career and instead sat on the sidelines teasing. In the aftermath they realize they got CUCKED and I love it XD XD XD

 

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle of “The same thing would have happened if it was before the life altering car crash”, and “the fight would have been COMPLETELY different.”

I imagine Bud wins, but it takes a little longer to figure Spence out and/or start hurting him. I don’t think he completely outclasses Spence closer to his best… but I still think he gets a clear victory and potentially a stoppage.

 

Reading Crawfords retirement announcement I think he is very annoyed at people putting asterisks on his Spence win and it heavily contributed to his decision to retire.

I've read him say multiple things this month like "they aren't going to give me credit anyway". And if you think about when he would have gotten that impression its probably after beating Spence.
