Reports are Wilder eyeing Gassiev while negotiating for Usyk

Sadly I agree. Wilder losing to Parker and Big Bang Zhang tells me he’s completely shot and that was years ago. Gassiev washes him.

The fact that Gassiev was able to beat Lebedev, Wlodarczyk and Dorticos but not HW fringe contender Wallin doesn't strengthen cruiser's credibility.

Vitali didn't beat many top fighters; his wins aren't much better than Wilder's (if at all) but he still has a much higher standing than Gassiev, as does Wilder.

 

Mchunu beating Chambers and Hunter beating Bakole don't help heavyweights credibility. Let alone Usyk beating top heavyweights.

Gassiev Wallin alone has little bearing on the merit of cruiserweight

 

Jake Kilrain, Sharkey came around a bit past Ortiz's prime years

 

The money was too good and he came back for that PBC fight against Gunboat Smith

 

Give me Gassiev in similar fashion to the Pulev fight. Wilder paws around and throws a few rights into the tight high guard and somewhere in the middle rounds Gassiev lands a bomb that stops the show.

 

I rate Hunter more highly than the vast majority of cruisers and higher than Gassiev because of his performances at HW, he also put on a stronger showing vs Usyk than Gassiev. But very few cruisers who moved to HW have equalled or bettered clear wins over Kuzmin and Bakole and a draw with Povetkin.
