Yup. The right hand Smith landed before the KO punch was an absolute laser and a testament to his ability to maintain form and precision accuracy despite his obvious fatigue.

 

Smith is good he has the whole package. Power, speed, fundamentals. Think he falls short against the likes of a Shakur though.

Smith surprised me, he showed something different against Matias. I had this as a 50/50 kind of fight because I didn't know how he'd deal with the pressure but he showed he can slug it out as well as box. Personally I had Smith winning every round.

Matias is done. He was never that good to begin with, but he just had an opponent stand with him, fight his type of fight and beat him at his own game.

Good start of the year already with this one. Thought Matias would do his usual thing by overwhelming his man but Smith fought a great fight and beat him fair and square. Figured it was only a matter time until someone eventually caught Matias clean and stop him with that overtly aggressive style of his. Let’s see where Matias goes from there and if he can bounce back from that.

 

Fantastic performance from Dalton Smith last night.

The bias on commentary was pathetic and laughable. Smith won every single round…. And beat Matias at his own game.

To finish Matias like that in his backyard was superb. He hits him with the 1-2, Matias wobbles but instead of rushing his work, he takes a second, sets himself and then ends the show. Brilliant.

 

Sick fight. Smith came into enemy territory and put on a show. He out fought him and out boxed him as well. Crowd silencer and commentary silencer. Fun phone booth fight with good action. Respect to Matias, horrible gameplan though.

Matias immediately zombie-walked straight at Smith and began eating overhand rights, jabs, body shots etc. Smith had the crisper and more accurate work and by the time Matias started to attack any openings, he was too beat up, got hit clean and knocked down. Any time Matias attempted to get comfortable, Smith would just hit him, hold him, and turn him.

Also the commentary must have been some of the worst I've heard. They were hyping Matias up the whole fight even through the finishing sequence as Matias was staggered. Smith would land a huge combination and snap Matias' head back and the commentators would say something like "Can Smith keep up with the pace that Matias is putting on him here? I don't know!" ??? Matias lands one punch amid a Dalton Smith combo "Matias is forcing him to trade!". ???

 

Just caught up.

DS is a bad mother****er.

Brawling with Matías is an unhinged strategy on paper, but he made it work.

He stayed composed through some bombs from Matías as well as some rough-and-tumble dirty boxing inside (shipping a few butts and hits on the break).

You can tell Matías thought he was on the verge of getting a KO late in R3. Who knows, another 20-30 seconds ...?

If I were watching live, I'd basically be waiting for Smith to crumble from that point and then all during the fourth. He not only hung in there, but pounced with a locked-in barrage of looping power shots the moment he sensed that Matías was slightly punched out (very early in the 5th, although the commentators were blind to it and even stupidly remarked upon how "Matías' body language never changes" even as the Puerto Rican's health bar was being rapidly drained before their eyes).

Sizzling finish, too, with a triplet of full-send 1-2s past Matías' jab.

How the hell did Mathieu freaking Germain last the full twelve with Smith?

 

Bit of a shootout this fight, wasn't it?! Enjoyed the action while it lasted. These guys looked very stocky for LWW!! Was a very meat n potatoes fight, if I'm gonna be ever so slightly critical. Anyhow, good luck to DS wish him all the best.
