Who was better prime for prime h2h?

Tyson, though, quite clearly. I'd be less certain if these were head-to-head fights, but even then I'd lean toward Tyson. Evander never looked as impressive in any fight as Tyson did against Biggs, Berbick, Holmes, or Spinks. He had more longevity, a better overall career, and a better resume, but when it comes to the prime result, there can only be one: Mike Tyson.

Then avoided Bowe, Moorer etc instead fighting Peter McNeely, Buster Mathis Jnr and Bruce Seldon. His contemporary career with Evander was garbage and carefully selected.

Ring magazine tipped Tyson via first round KO going into this fight (and most of his worshippers on this forum would still think “88 Tyson” would do the same despite the reality of a faded Holyfield twice beating the snot out of him).

The suspension of logic and faith placed in Tyson by his fans is staggering. If you watched his career in real time you’d know he wasn’t seen as the faded, shot fighter going into the Holyfield fight. Holyfield was seen a a sacrificial lamb going into the fight but unfortunately for Mikey and his cheer leaders Evander didn’t read that memo.

I'd lean toward Tyson. I suspect Holyfield might always beat him but that just one piece when including against the field. I think there's some top flight heavyweights Tyson would beat, and Evander wouldn't. Joe Frazier and Larry Holmes would be examples of my opinion. I'd pick him at his best to KO Bowe as well. There'd be certain styles i think Holyfield would potentially have a better chance against. Overall tho i think Tyson gets more wins and he'd dominate the non ATG's way more at his best.

Yes John that's how I see it aswell and I was trying to explain that earlier.

I gave an example before in this thread how a prime Holyfield had alot of problems vs 42 year old Holmes.

If you made a poll how many would pick Holyfield vs a prime Holmes based on how well a 42 year old Holmes did ? I guarantee Holmes would win the poll by a significant amount.

Now do the same poll for a prime Tyson vs prime Holmes what would the poll look like ? Probably 70/30 in favour of Tyson I'd say ?

Your other example is good aswell Holyfield would probably be an underdog vs a prime Frazier where as Tyson would be a significant favourite over Tyson.

I think people were misunderstanding my post before I wasn't debating about how a prime Tyson/Holyfield would go hypothetically.

I'm debating Tyson against notable great Heavyweights is more of a H2H threat than Holyfield is and I don't think that's an outlandish thing to say.

Holyfield may well beat a prime Tyson although I'd argue that's very debatable.

But I don't think Holyfield is a bigger H2H threat than Tyson against all of the notable Heavyweights past/present.

It could have been heart issues caused by PEDs. In fact that was something doctors considered. There were talk of hepatitis also, though, I think. But whatever his problems were and what caused them, the point was that it wasn't Holy at his best in there. He probabaly shouldn't even have been in the ring to start with.

Douglas showed up thirty pounds overweight against Holyfield and obviously trained by eating twinkies.

 

You can't help it, the guy dominated his era like no one before or since. He quickly quit boxing, but it's hard to find a more complete and dominant boxer than Tyson from 1986-1988.

Sam Holy always said Tyson was great. He was also #1 in boxing for boxing, something Evander never achieved. He was Boxer of the Year twice more, and his dominance from that era is still remembered to this day. Deal with it, my friend, because you clearly have a problem with it.
