I rewatched Duran vs Leonard 1 again and it was a lot closer than I remembered

Usually i would agree with you but in this fight in particular I'm with him

Duran was rolling with almost every punch, controlled both the ring and leonard, so it may seem like he's getting hit but he's rolling and smothering while actively gaining superior hand positioning and pushing SRL to the ropes

Also the fight had so many close rounds but none were clear leonard wins besides the first and last, so a round being close could give the illusion of a closer fight on the scorecard

A fight could be 15-0 for one side and still be extremely competitive

It's mainly the fact that Leonard wasn't actually landing, it takes a trained eye to see that even Mike tyson mentioned that

A recent incident of something like this is the slip "counter" from crawford against canelo, just look it up in any social media and you'd see literal millions thinking Crawford nearly made canelo do a 360 until the man himself said he actually rolled with it

Duran had bigger rounds in the fight but Leonard still won his fair share of rounds that's the point.

All 3 of the professional judges had the fight close and everyone in this thread who's commented had the fight close so its not like my opinion is the minority.

You can also have a fight that's close but still have a clear winner like in regards to this fight.

What is the criteria of a trained eye ?

Because I certainly know what to look for in regards to clean effective punching and defence.

For example I had Duran clearly beating Barkley based on his defence rolling with Barkley's punches and landing clean effective punches.

I thought Duran Barkley was much closer than Montreal.

I’ll have to rewatch this fight again and score it again, it’s my favourite fight after all.
Duran had the fight well wrapped up before the championship rounds I thought. I’m not sure they were all Leonard either, as someone said the 13th was close.
Duran trolled Leonard with a brilliantly mocking display of defensive boxing in the 15th, just to rubber stamp that Leonard couldn’t hit him, as he’d barely done the whole fight , at least cleanly.
Duran was always going to be a bit tired, he had to take it to Leonard the whole fight to make sure he didn’t get robbed, but the 15th round was hardly the actions of a faded fighter on his last legs. On ring generalship the 15th was Durans all day long

And boxing writers also had it close. So the judges, boxing writers and the majority on this board apparently don't know what they're looking at.

You can't really rely on the judges for your argument, i had ODLH beating trinidad 9-3 yet he didn't even get the fight, so many robberies happen very often

The criteria of the trained eye is to watch enough fighters who roll with punches till you can see it yourself, even people in the crowd didn't notice the rolling, i think only leonard himself and tyson were probably the only ones noticing that he's not actually landing

There was two incidents, one is the uppercut and the other was the left hook, neither landed but the crowd and the commentators went crazy

Also something i forgot to mention was the inside hand wrestling that duran was applying, a lot of leonard's shots were either barely touching or not touching duran at all because he was wrestling his hands inside, that's called hand trapping

    This content is protected

And i agree with the fella on duran vs barkley, it was closer than montreal i scored it 7-5 plus the KD

I'm not relying on solely on the judges.

The boxing writers and journalists all had it close.

Mostly everyone who's commented on this thread who are very knowledgeable posters had it close.

Infact I'd say your 9-3 scorecard of ODLH/Tito is more out there than people having Duran/Leonard 1 as a close but clear win for Duran.

I don't think I've ever seen a scorecard have it that wide for ODLH.

This fight is not 13-2 simply because Duran did not try to win the 15th.
