I favor Hagler at 168. Ward never fought anyone on Hagler's level, but Hagler defeated better fighers than Ward (Duran, Hearns).
Yeah but Hagler was strictly a middleweight. Ward was a championship level SMW and light heavyweight with day before weigh ins. Pound for pound, Hagler all day. I also don't think Hagler beats Hearns at SMW or LHW
Yes he does, in addition to all of Haglers physical traits and skills if he just bullrushed Hearns like he did in the first fight odds are he finds that chin. It's all down to Haglers approach
I don't think the 8 pound jump would diminish Hagler's effectiveness in any way. Ward's run at 168 was against lesser opponents. He went life and death with Miranda, Green, Bika, and Abraham. These were good but not great fighters. He fought a dirty, foul-filled fight with Kessler that got stopped on "accidental" cuts from his headbutts and elbows. Hearns was also a big 160, hit harder than Ward.
Hagler never fought at 168, so saying it “wouldn’t diminish him in any way” is guesswork. Ward was a full time super middleweight with strength, clinch control, and inside fighting things that matter even more as the weight goes up. And no, Ward didn’t go “life and death” with Miranda, Green, Bika, or Abraham he comprehensively beat all of them. This post just reeks of cope.
I hate these types of fantasy fights, because Hagler never once fought at 168. So it’s an absolute unknown how he’d have looked at the weight.
