Kind of sucks for him. He's literally the only true elite in his division, and he's a bit on the small side for HW.

I have no idea what an actual good path for him is or what Zuffa will do with him. He could grab both Bridger belts while keeping his CW belt, and defend all three for like the next decade?

Yes but he did it at the expense of fighters. MMA/UFC guys were even banned from wearing sponsored clothes during fight week and fight night. This hurt their earnings. Combined with the fact that Dana is often paying them peanuts.

Boxers have been making good money for the last 4 decades while MMA was a completely new sport so Dana could underpay fighters.

Dana wants to lowball boxers. This will decrease the incentive for talented guys to get into a dangerous sport like boxing if the overall fighter pay decreases to MMA levels.

Boxing has a lot more depth in competition than MMA, and yes, i am a MMA fan. But there are a lot more boxers, there is a much longer boxing history, there is far greater depth of competition in boxing than MMA, and there is a history of boxing paying more which is why more men take up pro boxing than pro MMA.

Reduce the fighter/boxer pay like Dana White wants to and you are not only hurting current boxers who are risking their health and their lives, you are also decreasing incentives for boys/men in the future to take up a dangerous sport like boxing if they are going to be lowballed.

Dana did a fine job raising the popularity of UFC. But even then, UFC has stagnated for the last couple of years and 2 exceptional guys (Illia and Periera) have basically been carrying the UFC. Dana's insistence that fighters should be paid less has stagnated the UFC. So while Dana did a good job taking an obscure sport and an obscure organization into being world famous, he is also hurting it right now by his refusal to share more revenue with the fighters.

Keep Dana the hell away from boxing. Boxing is not a new obscure sport and it does not need Dana White.

This is why boxing politics has ruined the sport. The best don't get opportunities to fight for titles and if they ever do, they get robbed. Then the knob polishers get to pretend they are good fighters, when in fact, they are middle tier ped boys.

 

Maybe now that Opetaia is locked in with Turkyi White, Briedis will come back and have one more run!

Maybe he’s attracted to the fact that the UFC’s GOAT, Jon Jones, fought at the 205-lb weight class? It’s possible he knows he’s in his best physical fighting form there, 200 lbs (like Jon Jones was when he fought at 205 lbs) and won’t have the same success against the 245 lbs+ guys.

We also have to remember that Usyk is a major outlier for who he is and what he accomplished at heavyweight.

 

Lowballing is exactly why this is going to fail in the long run. Even if they start out highballing to grab talent, there are just too many people who know boxing in the world. As soon as they try to tamp down what they are paying, it opens up opportunities for rivals.
