Is Shakur Stevenson meant to be the new Mayweather?

Eh. Floyd is faster, more explosive, better IQ, better reflexes, better defense. Shakur is damn good, but I can’t find one thing he can do better than Floyd.

 

Floyd at 130lbs was as dynamic a fighter as you're likely to ever see: fast, explosive, accurate, hard hitting, and defensively responsible.

Brilliant fighter.

Stevenson is very good, but he just isn't special in the same way.

 

I never saw it. He’s clearly talented but he’s not that level of talent. When Floyd was Shakur’s age, he was super fast, athletic, power in both hands, excellent fundamentals, and ring IQ. Shakur is nowhere near as fast as Floyd was. Had nowhere near the power. Floyd had better fundamentals. Ring IQ is hard to say because Shakur hasn’t fought the level of opposition Floyd has yet.

My biggest issue with Shakur is he comes off as though he plays a game of tag rather than actually engaging in the pocket. What I mean is Shakur will be in the pocket to land punches but when it comes to his opponent trying to throw at him, he immediately takes a step back in a straight line or jumps completely out of range. That limits his counter punching opportunities because he’s either in range to punch or not in range to counter. It comes off as him playing tag than actually fighting. Like he’s afraid of contact. He didn’t do it in his last fight but he’s done it in almost every other fight. Floyd didn’t fight like that. He could make opponents miss and counter them in the pocket.

 

He's probably the closest thing in boxing today, but no.

Shakur is not generational. Floyd was.

Young Floyd's defense frequently facilitated his offense.

Miss or get out of position and Floyd would punish you with sharp, stinging shots.

 

Floyd had considerably more talent and skill, offensively and defensively. That's not a knock on Shakur either - Mayweather was just that special.

 

Floyd was so much more explosive, better offensively, and a real killer instinct.

It's kinda stale that it seems like every slick African-American is compared to Floyd at this point. Floyd is an ATG that had a lot of exceptional qualities, and a pretty unique style/mannerisms..

Shakur is really good, and may end up being great... But I feel it's say its safe to say even comparing Floyd early on in his career to Shakur that there is a visible difference in their level of talent.

 

No..... you will see another shakur before you see another Floyd. Hell, I actually think Keyshawn, Mason, Ennis, and Cruz are more talented

 

Then how can Shakur be generational? do you know what that means?

Floyd was amazing to watch. Mesmerising, even.

Too bad his real world IQ didn't match his boxing IQ.

 

Wasn’t Pacquiao generational as well? Are you really generational if there are more than one fighter that is generational in the same generation? How long is a generation anyway?
