Douglas had not achieved anything yet. Also, he had promised his mother (on her death bed) that he'd win the belt for her. So, unlike Tyson, he was more motivated than ever. And trained harder than ever. Douglas was very talented, but he never gave it his all up until that point.

Douglas was at the right man at the right time with the right motivation vs a dis interested, lazy, lack of focus, undertrained Champ, no excuses , Douglas won fair and square but still against that lethargic Tyson he was almost counted out on his very best night ever.
