Usyk vs. Fury 2 Following on from my previous post rewatching the Usyk & Fury fights. In my other post on the 1st fight I had it 115-113 Usyk. 6 rounds to Usyk, 5 to Fury and 1 even. Minus 1 point to Fury for the knockdown. Rewatxhed fight 2 for the first time since watching it live. I didn't actually score it at the time as I watched iy out but remember thinking Usyk had won by a couple of rounds. Rewatched today, here's my thoughts: Round 1 - Usyk Good jabs from Usyk to start the round. Not much landed from the pair of them, Fury lands a good jab but Usyk landing to the body and a good left hand near the end of the round. Usyk 10 - 9 Fury Round 2 - Fury Good couple of jabs from Fury but Usyk doing good bodywork, jabs to the body and a straight left. Good left right combo from Fury that stops Usyk in his tracks. Another really hard round to score. Usyk 19-19 Fury Round 3 - Usyk Good left from Usyk. Fury lands a couple of good jabs. Good counters from Usyk. Fury throwing more jabs but not all landing. Another close round Usyk 29 - 28 Fury Round 4 - Usyk Usyk still varying his work from body to head. Lands a big left hand. Fury lands a good right hand. Usyk 39 - 37 Fury Round 5 - Fury Quiter round to begin with both trying to establish the jabs. Fury lands a good left uppercut. Fury goes on the front foot both trade shots. Fury lands a good body shot. Usyk ends the round well but Fury edges it. Usyk 48 - 47 Fury Round 6 - Usyk Close round, both trying to establish an advantage. Fury lands a good right half way through the round. Big left hand from Usyk with 30 seconds to go, lands another good combination. Usyk 58 - 56 Fury Round 7 - Usyk Usyk starts the round well with a combination. Fury not doing much first half but lands a good straight right. Good left from Usyk pushes Fury back. Usyk 68 - 65 Fury Round 8 - Usyk Good jabs from Fury at the start of the round. Clash of heads breaks up the round not much in it. Good left hand from Fury but Usyk replies with a good combination. Usyk 78 - 73 Fury Round 9 - Fury Better start to the round from Fury. Lands a couple of good body shots. Usyk lands a good solid jab and a right hook. Usyk has a strong final minute but across the round Fury slightly edges it. Close round. Usyk 87 - 84 Fury Round 10 - Fury Good work from Fury Early on. Body shot from Fury stops Usyk momentarily but he lands a good left hand. Usyk lands a good jab then a left. Fury responds with a couple of good uppercuts. Usyk 96 - 94 Fury Round 11 - Usyk Good body work from Usyk again. Making Fury miss. Usyk lands a really good shot and another. Big left hand from Usyk, big round for Usyk. Fury looking tired but lands a good shot at the end of the round. Usyk 106 - 103 Fury Round 12 - Usyk Good body shot from Fury. Good jab from Usyk. Fury lands a good left but missing a lot. He does then land a good right. Usyk responds landing 2 solid lefts. Usyk lands another good shot right before the bell. FINAL SCORE Usyk 116 - 112 Fury Summary: Personally I don't think this fight was a patch on the first fight. Usyk made improvements from the first fight. I actually believe Fury was worse. I only had him losing the first fight by 1 round + a knockdown 115-113 to Usyk (re score in a separate post yesterday). In that fight I thought Fury boxed well at times and hurt Usyk. He tired and got hurt and Usyk's constant pressure ultimately grinder Fury down. When Fury came in heavier I expected him to go for it and go for the knockout however he seemed to box the same as the first fight. But the added weight made him more sluggish and he looked even more gassed come the end of the fight. You either come in lighter again and box or you bulk up and go for the knockout and take risks. The fight was competitive in the first 6. I only gave Fury 2 rounds in this period however rounds 1,2,3,5 were close. Usyk started to get down to business in round 6 and started to pick Fury apart winning 3 straight rounds in my eyes. Round 9 again was close. Usyk probably landed the more eye catching shots so can see why some people would score him the round, however I think across the round Fury probably just edged it. Round 10 I gave to Fury but this was really his last good round. I thought Usyk clearly won the final 2 rounds, Fury landed a couple of good shots but Usyk landed more and cleaner punches. His work flowed whilst Fury looked sluggish. I think the judges score of 116-112 was very fair. Can see the case for 115-113 if you scored a couple of the early rounds Fury way that were close. But I coukd also see a case for 117-111 Usyk. Funnily enough I thought Usyk was also better in the first fight despite winning more decisively. It seemed in this fight he just did what he had to. He stepped it up the final third of the fight. A decent fight but not as good as the first. Clear Usyk win. Let me know your thoughts on the fight.
It was a wide one. The Usyk supercomputer had Fury fully downloaded for the second and dominated him. Fury I don't think was necessarily much worse, it's just that he wasn't any better either and didn't have anything new and challenging to bring to the table... Coming in heavier suggested he'd try and go for power - which never really materialized - but it seemed a silly policy given Usyk's known excellent chin and Fury's limited power even when trying to come in with bad intentions. Oddly, one could make a strong case that AJ is the only heavy who's done better second time around - still definitely lost, but clearly did better where Fury did a bit worse and Dubois did worse (even ignoring the fouls)...
Fury came in way too heavy for this one, thought he could just bully Usyk like he bullied wilder. Had he come in similar shape to the first fight we probably would’ve had a great fight.
Agreed. He came in way to heavy to then try and box his way to victory. Personally think it was similar to AJ's rematch, competitive rounds and Usyk pulling away. Usyk schooled AJ in the first fight though
I had Usyk winning virtually every round, but the judges score was fair because a few round were close. Neither guy did much, but Uysk would get inside at key moments and steal the rounds with a good combo or two.
Thanks, i enjoyed reading these. Haven't myself undertaken a recent enough rewatch to contribute meaningfully.
The last time I rewatched the fight I only gace Fury 1 round. But the score can go anywhere from 119-109 to 116-112.
Not as good of a fight as the first encounter. Fury was more defensively responsible and did not nearly get KO'd like in fight one but never mounted any kind of consistent offense like the first fight. Usyk to his part fought much carefully too and edged out the vast majority of rounds. IT felt like some of the rounds were up for grabs if Fury just let his hands go a little more but then again maybe he would have eaten another big counter. Usyk seemed more interested in sitting on his shots more in this fight and doing more with less activity if I remember properly.
Both came in defensivly more sound, both even more foxused on edging rounds by small margins unlike the first fight which flowed back and forth.
Kinda hard to look great when your opponent is terrified of getting knocked down again so they fight extremely defensive the entire fight. Fury kept his right hand glued to his chin the entire fight. Refused to come forward and fight. Was quick to back up and retreat whenever Usyk started up his offense. Even still, Usyk landed MORE punches than the 1st fight and got hit with less. That's a master at work. You are right that Usyk won basically every round. I think the only round you can clearly give to Fury in this fight was the 5th. The OP giving the 9th/10th to Fury is the typical "the guy getting his ass beat got his ass beat a little less this round, therefore I'll give him the round." Usyk realized early that Fury was fighting like a giant coward and so he just kept it in 2nd gear and put on a boxing lesson. Every time he landed his left upside Fury's ugly head, Fury looked like he was seeing stars. Dude's punch resistance is toast.
