Couldn't knock out Mungia Mungia gets KOd by Surace Couldn't knock out Berlanga Berlanga gets Kod by Sheeraz Couldn't knock out Scull Scull gets knocked out by Jacob Blank
Canelo is really small for 168, you can’t really judge his ability based on KOs. Sure he didnt KO them but he decisively beat all those guys.
not shot physically...just bored with it all at this point. can you blame him? he has all the money and all the stuff. he has patriot prestige in a highly nationalistic culture. he has white privilege where it's not a myth. mentally maybe, tough to get up at 0400 outta that swank bed, ya know?
Shot to me means he's done at the elite level. That's hard to say right now. He's clearly past his prime though.
"Shot" would be very strong. Plainly past his peak but I'd describe him as being in the tail end of his prime.
I been saying he has been done since he had a tough fight vs Ryder. Most of the boxing world has been in denial. Ryder, Mungia, Berlanga, Scull all got knocked out in their next fights after Canelo.
Going the distance with Ryder and having a tough fight is not what an elite fighter does is it? he has been done at elite level for 3 years and you still can't see it..
You thought he had a tough fight with Ryder? I didn't. He just didn't stop him but he still clearly won the fight. I probably gave Ryder 1-2 rounds. Done at the elite level to me means they aren't competitive. They have become a gatekeeper. Canelo hasn't shown me that. What he has shown me is he's past his prime.
Yes he did. Go look at Canelo's face at the end of the fight. Do you think an elite fighter would go the distance with 154 pound charlo, berlanga, mungia, scull, ryder, then get easily beaten by a 38 year old welter?
He spent 4 years cherrypicking and avoiding his #2 and greatest threat for a large part of that time and the rematch with Bivol (ie. elite opponents) and he couldn't register a single stoppage over any of those cherrypicks despite damn near all of them sans one or two having subsequently been knocked out or stopped by complete featherfists, padded record C or D levels, unheralded prospects even I hadn't heard of, and fighters who are far from elite or who still have a long way to go to prove they can become so. And the 2 who weren't subsequently knocked out 1 retired and the other hasn't fought since None of the guys he fought during those 4 years were elite sans Bivol or elite at the time or weight he fought them but most of them were subsequently knocked out by fighters who were way below elite or not elite. An elite fighter who can punch doesn't go on a 4 year KO drought vs cherrypicks most of whom were subsequently knocked out by far from elite fighters unless said elite fighter is well past their best
