Dubois weighed 244 lbs in November 2020 against Joyce. He weighed 245 against Hrgovic in June 2024. Body composition was pretty much the same.

He just weighed in uncharacteristically low for the first Usyk fight. It was his lowest weight since his pro debut I think.

No, I'm not telling you what you were trying to say, don't put words in my mouth - I'm telling you why it's not a suitable analogy UNLESS you think that everyone is wrong and just can't see it (which is a dumb opinion given the evidence available).

Fury's significantly more skilful and similar power (not nothing, but not particularly powerful for a heavy) - it's easy enough saying what you'd want to do to Usyk, lots of people say they have a plan... Then find he's way too good to execute it.

Hrgovic isn't going to succeed on that where higher level guys with better ring IQ have failed.

If you think Hrgovic is better than AJ or Fury on pretty much any metric besides pure chin strength you're simply wrong - and Chisora can be more competitive at times simply because he has way more power and isn't afraid to eat a few shots to use it (not that Hrgovic is afraid of using his chin, but he lacks the power).

And this is basically the problem - you think Hrgovic is way, way better than he is...

He's not winning 7 rounds against Usyk, he'd be lucky to win 2 or 3.

There's levels to this, and Hrgovic just doesn't have it - he's okay, but he's not really even a contender, he's just too mediocre in too many ways.

Your Croatian objectivity is quaint. Hrgovic got a huge gift against Zhang. Enough said.

First time in this thread I get schooled on something, congrats. I watched the Joyce fight but didn't know the weight and didn't assume Dubois was so heavy, I guess because Joyce is so big himself so Dubois didn't look it in comparison.

Still doesn't negate the possibility of „advanced supplement“ abuse, but muscle memory is a thing and if he was so heavy before, it would definitely be easier to gain the muscle mass again.

It's still sus how he looked both weaker and fatter in 2nd fight vs Usyk than vs Joshua while being lighter – usually a sign of being off „advanced supplement“ cycle. Or he was simply poorly conditioned.

Either way I concede this to you and throw my argument in the bin as muscle memory is probably a better explanation than my „advanced supplementation“, and I think it's fair to give Dubois the benefit of the doubt (something most people don't give Hrgovic).

Hrgovic is more powerful and it's questionable if Fury is more skillful, yes he was a big British project so he got much better opportunities (which he mostly didn't use, if Hrgovic was in Fury's place we'd see much more interesting fights, the AJ fight would definitely happen f.e.).

Unfortunately I can't see that Hrgovic and Fury shared any opponents to compare them even indirectly. For AJ and Hrgovic I know they shared Dubois (where, at the risk of repeating myself for 1000th time Hrgovic did much better even while not at 100%, unlike Joshua didn't get KO'd, and unlike Joshua was winning rounds). I also knew they shared Zumbano and Molina and both dispatched them similarly quickly. I also just now saw they share Kevin Johnson too, whom Joshua KO'd and Hrgovic didn't, though Hrgovic was only 105kg in the fight. But I give it to you anyway that Joshua has better power.

You're just wrong even according to current boxing rankings which I think undersell him that Hrgovic is not a contender, he is top 5 in 3 out of 4 organizations. In WBO he is 2nd in IBF he is 12 (though if you look at some names put above Hrgovic, IBF is definitely weird).

And I can easily tell you things other than chin where Hrgovic is better than AJ and Fury.

Higher punch volume than both Fury and AJ (suggesting better stamina, or as you say, engine) and Hrgovic has bigger testicles, meaning it's highly unlikely he'd be pulled by the nose for 12 rounds like Fury and Joshua did (and twice each lol), he'd pressure Usyk more but unlike Chisora would have the stamina, technique and reach to do it effectively.

Let's go into more detail on Hrgovic's engine. The last 2 fights are most indicative of his form. The last fight vs Adeleye Hrgovic had a full camp and came prepared, threw over 700 punches in 10 rounds. Before that, against Joyce, he came fatter and on short notice, still threw over 500.

Usyk threw 400-450 in 12 rounds against Fury, both fights. Did Usyk have the stamina to throw more? I absolutely believe that he did. But Usyk tends to win rounds by only a few punches and does the minimum required. Hrgovic drastically increases what that minimum is compared to Fury and AJ.

So against somebody like Hrgovic who would constantly go forward and pressure him Usyk would have to throw more punches to win rounds to keep up with Hrgovic's pace, while simultaneously being threatened with taking more damage and opening himself up more frequently for counters.

I don't think Hrgovic would one punch KO Usyk, it would be a war and Usyk would't handle the accumulated damage so he'd either break in late rounds and take a knee or get TKOd, or he'd simply lose rounds to avoid being broken.

As I said, Usyk never fought anybody with Hrgovic's COMBINATION of

    1. Size (weight and reach)
    2. Power
    3. Engine/stamina
    4. Punch volume
    5. Balls
    6. Technique
    7. Accuracy
    8. Chin

Fury, AJ, Chisora and Dubois have some of these traits better than Hrgovic, some worse, but none of them have the full package. Hrgovic is the most "complete" fighter.

Specifically 3,4,7 and 8 Hrgovic definitely has over any other fighter Usyk faced. Fury has size on Hrgovic and Joshua has power. Technique is arguable, but Hrgovic is definitely up there close to them if not equal. Chisora probably punches more powerful than Hrgovic and equal testicles but lacks everywhere else. Dubois is only maybe slightly more powerful, lacks everywhere else.

If you had an actual argument you'd present it, not question my objectivity, which is a slimy underhanded tactic and essentially just an ad hominem fallacy.

I have never stated Hrgovic is better because he is a Croat, in fact there is no other Croat boxer currently that deserves to be in top 10 and I openly admit it. I constantly present facts and arguments based on these facts to support my positions. It is because I am Croat that it bothers me when I think we have a top level athelete that is underrated, that much is true. But it doesn't mean my assessment of Hrgovic is biased. Croat or not if I didn't think he is genuinely good I wouldn't be following his career. I don't follow closely any other Croat boxer, even if I do support them sometimes.

It's also a fact that smaller, poorer countries in general get worse treatment in sports.

I debunked the Zhang argument countless times in this thread. Despite being a deserved loss for Zhang, that fight was a much bigger gift for him than Hrgovic. Look at Zhang's opponents after the Hrgovic fight. Look at Hrgovic's.

Just surviving 12 rounds with Hrgovic and doing decent despite clearly losing combined with his Chinese fanbase of over a billion was enough to propel him into 4 big fights. Tells you how much people implicitly respect Hrgovic even though they don't want to acknowledge it because „we don't need a champ from 3 million people country“. Hrgovic only got 2 good names to fight, one of which was Dubois which was partly Hrgovic's ****up for not postponing the fight due to sickness and partly horrible refereeing that allowed Dubois constant headbutts only to stop the fight in his favor (?!). 2nd is Joyce, which Hrgovic was actually extremely lucky for once, as it was supposed to be Joyce vs Whyte but Whyte canceled so Hrgovic was called on short notice and despite of it he accepted, happy to finally get a good fight.

And then people will complain he doesn't have enough good names. It's so tiresome how false and stupid the mainstream narrative is from the perspective of somebody who actually knows and understands what's going on.

I just don't think there's any point in talking - you overrate Hrgovic like CRAZY man... Like, way, way beyond what anyone else does here - including your compatriot @CroBox29 who has always been a big fan but is a lot more realistic about his limitations, an honesty I have huge respect for.

That's a lot of words to state the obvious... Joshua was a murderous puncher when he really let his hands go - the punch that stopped Ngannou is one of the most brutal you'll ever see.

Hrgovic isn't in the same ballpark whatsoever for power.

Org rankings are trash, pretty much always have been.

He blows his load early - that's not better stamina, it's poor discipline to use his limited stamina so quickly... He fades badly basically every time.

A fighter with "bigger testicles" wouldn't have hidden after Zhang fighting low calibre journeymen to save his ranking position - he'd have tried to build with better fights and force himself into position...

And you have no evidence whatsoever that he'd put more pressure on Usyk - even if he had the stamina to do it long enough to win enough rounds (which he doesn't), he lacks the speed and the ring IQ... He'd get destroyed by Usyk - probably more one-sided than Dubois 2.

Why are we talking about fighting a journeyman and the completely shot zombie of a massively overhyped fighter as if they tell us ANYTHING about how he'd be able to perform against top level fighters? It's just nonsense.

Hrgovic would be missing or hitting glove constantly against Usyk - he's a totally different calibre of opponent.

Even IF Hrgovic had the stamina to throw enough, he wouldn't be able to score enough to beat him.

It's a mismatch, to even consider it worth pontificating on is madness.

Well at least you've got one thing right - Usyk could stand still with his hands down and Hrgovic probably still wouldn't be able to one-punch KO him.

It wouldn't be a war, it'd be a schooling and Hrgovic would be the whipping boy - he'd lose wide on cards, realistically, 99/100... Neither is stopping the other (unless Hrgovic cuts open again, but that aside) and Usyk is so many levels above technically, and in terms of speed and stamina... It's an elite ATG against a decent durable gatekeeper - a complete mismatch.

Every fighter is a slightly different combination - Usyk has fought MUCH better fighters and dominated them, Hrgovics combination of attributes doesn't add up in a special way that makes him greater than the sum of his parts... If anything, the opposite is the case.

    This is simply rubbish...

Fury and AJ outrank him on basically every metric (and massively on some). They were a very clear level above, if not two.

Chisora and Dubois have more realistic paths to victory against decent fighters - they have their weaknesses, but they're more effective as overall packages.

Again, I just think you're massively overrating Hrgovic - he's had few fights against gatekeeper or contender opponents (3) and hasn't looked massively special in any of them... And I'm being generous by including Joyce for you.

    He lost 1/3.

He has 0 KO's at that gatekeeper/contender level.

His wins at that level have both come against VERY slow, concrete-footed and old opponents (Zhang and Joyce).

Zhang is literally 50/50 against good opponents, and famous for a terrible gas tank and Hrgovic only just squeezed past him (and plenty think it should've gone - I think he did just about enough).

Joyce he won wide, rightly, but Joyce was shot to bits, even slower than he'd been even in his prime and asks zero questions of your ability to land punches (as he just lets them land)... Failing to make a dent isn't a particular knock to Hrgovic given how durable Joyce was, but all the same it doesn't suggest nearly as much about Hrgovic ability against contenders as I suspect you believe.

Hrgovic just isn't special - it's really not that complicated, he's a limited fighter with a few things going for him but as an overall package he's not going to be beating legit contenders.

Sorry buddy, but either your assessment is massively biased in his favour...

    Or...

The vast majority opinion is massively biased against him - AND it's a fix that he's not looked particularly special so far.

Believe what you want, that's your right, but you come across as hopelessly biased. Not an insult, just saying it how it is.

You certainly wouldn't say he's the best heavyweight and would have a good chance against Usyk, though, would you?

Usyk is currently invincible, Hrgovic would lose, but maybe he would last all the rounds xD

I can't see either winning by stoppage (except cuts) to be honest... But I can't see Hrgovic winning more than a couple of rounds either.

This is funny. I haven't read this forum before I joined and made this thread, but I have a bro who has. He told me of a guy named CroBox who caught his eye because of the „Cro“ part and described him as Grima Wormtongue with the worst of takes. You know, betraying truth and eagerly sticking a knife in the back of his own people to appease the more numerous/powerful foreigners.

Part of an org ranking is who gets to be 1st place aka champion, so we can disregard that as "trash" too I guess lol. Big difference between claiming the organizations are imperfect and just outright dismissing the rankings of all 4 organizations as „trash“. You ignore every piece of evidence that goes counter to your narrative, except when that same piece of evidence (ranking) supports your narrative. It's actually incredible to witness the cognitive dissonance. And the way you just keep repeating stuff I debunked multiple times is tiresome. No point arguing with somebody like that. Your extreme and repeated dishonesty made me lose interest in further reading your opinions on anything. You go on my ignore list so when I read the forum it's less cluttered with trash.

Then your friend is as clueless as you are - Cro occasionally backs the underproven fighter a bit too much, but he revises his opinions with evidence... Something you don't appear capable of.

You don't have a clue what you're talking about - I basically never rely on official rankings and constantly criticise people for trusting them when they're clearly wrong.

I'm done, you can join the elite group of morons on my ignore list - it's an achievement, of sorts.

Seriously, what the **** is wrong with you? I thought you were just a superfan, which I could respect. But with this garbage post, you make it clear that you're nothing but a simple-minded nationalistic nuthugger which is the absolute worst type of "boxing fan" I've encountered and anything you say should be taken with a pinch of salt.

And again, there's no "truth" or "falsehood" to an opinion. You are entitled to have the opinion that Hrgovic is the best HW, but It's just that, opinion. The only truth we have right now is that he fought for an interim title once and was beaten. And no amount of excuses would change that, as It's the "truth".
