Without watching it again, I think I recall feeling like Oscar got lucky. The one memory of the fight that I have is a sequence where I think Sturm weaved under a punch and uppercutted Oscar down the middle and then did it again.
Felix fought a very similar game plan to Ike Quartey. I remember watching it live and have it scored 115-113 for Sturm. He is one of the very few fighters to out jab Oscar. Oscar really had no business at 160 but there were big dollars on the line with BHOP.
I don't recall this fight being as controversial as they made it out to be. It was a lousy fight, but I thought Oscar won it.
For anyone interested, below are the punch stats. In their June 5, 2004, bout, Felix Sturm outlanded Oscar De La Hoya 234-188, despite landing fewer total punches, according to Compubox. Sturm landed 43% of his 541 thrown punches, while De La Hoya landed only 24% of 792, but De La Hoya won a controversial 12-round unanimous decision (115–113 on all cards).
I don't remember this very well but I think I had it two points to Sturm to their 2 points to Oscar. I don't remember thinking it was a travesty or anything.
I remember Oscar had a muffin top due to too manny Crispy Creams, and Sturm doing enough to win. Sturm looked really smart and utilized a great jab. I had Sturm winning by a couple of points, but I haven't watched it in a long time.
I watched it live and was so disappointed in Oscar who looked chubby I did not score it back then and every time I turn it on to watch it and score it and see if I agree or disagree I cannot get past the third or fourth fight because it is not a good fight
I watched it again a couple of years ago. I can't really remember what I ended up with other than that it was a point one way or the other and no robbery happened.
