What should Teofimo Lopez improve on moving forward?

Cutting of the ring, moving forward, defending against the straight right, acknowledge he has technical flaws, stop taking hallucinogens, and go to therapy.

Like seriously if you thought his post fight interview was unhinged, he actually said in a past interview that the King of Spain guards him with snipers everywhere he goes.

Loma would have toyed with Ortiz, I would like to see how well Teo would do v Haney.

Head movement and feints will help along with a jab. Also mix up punch speeds. He was exposed so badly because he wasn't hiding any of his shots. He was either throwing hard 1-2's or loading up single power shots. Shakur saw every punch that was being thrown. You cannot allow that to happen with a fighter as fast and has great reflexes like Shakur. And I agree 100% on changing trainers.

 

Let's face it he is not going to sack his old man he was beaten by a better boxer he didn't really take a beating though so he will be fine.
He is still capable of winning fights against good opponents. I wouldn't count him out against Haney or Keyshawn as those guys are easier to hit than Shakur. He is still capable of beating Ryan Garcia, Rollie, Conor Benn so there are plenty of good fights still available for him.

 

To some extent, Teo's style has been based on his explosiveness and size advantage. He looked enormous at 135 against Loma and Kambosos. That advantage is lesser at 140.
He crouches just before throwing jabs, which is a pretty decent tell.
He leaps in instead of outmaneuvering or working his way in. He's fought maybe 4 or 5 southpaws, but doesn't try to get his lead foot outside.
I'm not sure he knows how to defend properly. He seems not to know which guard to use when, or he switches hand position at the wrong time. His guard is a bit flimsy.

Overall I think he's not had a trainer to educate him properly or help shape his style. His Dad is a parasite. A liability not an asset.
In the last 5 years he seems to have learnt little.

 

Teo has declined since the Loma fight, he was woeful vs Shakur.

 

I think another thing to consider is that in the Loma fight, Teo also had Joey Gamache in his corner helping him make the proper adjustments for his style. His pops got rid of him even before the Kambosos fight.

 

Holds up. Also in the commentary after this fight, Malik Scott this time brought up just the simple thing to keep his lead hand up. Annoying when fighters neglect such things at this level.

His life choices. In general I mean.

Starting with his trainer/father that he needs to drop/move aside for a real trainer. Learn to cut the ring off and get inside through clever head movement and a refined jab specifically.

 

Teo’s biggest enemy hasn’t been lack of skill—it’s uneven decision-making.

He sometimes fights the opponent in his head instead of the one in front of him.
He can drift away from simple, winning tactics when fights get tense.

When he stays disciplined (like vs. Josh Taylor), he looks world-class. The goal is doing that every fight, not just the big ones.
