Parted with Moore & Travis. Strange as they did a good job with him-should have been an undisputed world champion. Now he is likely on the slide and at this time I think it is even more important to have a corner that knows the fighter well and has their best interests at heart. Sam Jones still on the seen and Ekow Essuman on the Eubank v Benn undercard was the latest I had heard on Jack. Think Ekow beats him now.
Catterall is dreadful to watch. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has been advised that he needs to adapt his style if he wants to secure some decent paying fights going forward.
Shocked. He seemed close with Moore and Travis. And they did a good job with him, he would have been undisputed with fair judging. Wonder who'll he'll go to, surely Ben Davison doesn't have room for anyone else!
I think he's close to Cameron Vuong and he went to him a few months back so it wouldn't surprise me if he did.
Catterall is 32, he's not going to drastically change his style it's simply not fan friendly his team of Moore and Travis did a good job with him. Whoever he decides to go with I can only see a downward trajectory for his career, changing trainers won't amend how he will fight under pressure, risk adverse.
It's a cash out.... You can't blame fighters getting a retirement payday without giving a massive chuck away I'd imagine it will be a defeat incoming
Catterall has been terribly managed, he's possibly going to be shot in the not too distant future. He's been a pro for 14 years now, he should of kicked on with his career after the Taylor defeat. The Eubank fight made sense at the time, then he fought ekkowman (why?), now he's fighting Ramirez who Taylor beat 5 years ago. He should be fighting people who will get him close to a world title shot again. If he picks up another belt, I feel his reign could and will likely be short lived.
Maybe since the Taylor fight, but he was completely robbed of multiple unified world title belts and a multi-million-pound defence. His style is horrible to watch as well; he's a low-action, high-risk fight for many people, so I can understand why his career has panned out this way. As much as Sam Jones is a helmet, I don't think this is necessarily completely his fault.
I agree with most of this. He was robbed in the Taylor fight and that basically cost him the belts, the leverage, and by extension most of the big money fights that come with being the champ. After that he got navigated into a final eliminator and he lost, albeit on a split with 115-113s, which meant he had to go right back to the start again. And the uncomfortable truth is his style isn’t entertaining most of the time. The Ekow fight was fight of the night on that card, but generally he’s a tough watch and that hurts him commercially. His moment has probably passed unless he forces himself back into a mandatory spot, or one of the Brit world champions decides he’s over the hill and wants the name on their record. Otherwise he’s hard to beat and firmly in the “who needs him?” club. He’s also another example of how brutal boxing is – if he’d got the Taylor decision he’d probably be retired by now and sitting pretty. And anyone who installs Sam Jones as their manager deserves all they get.
