They said, his peak in the 60’s had happened and of course, the win over Foreman. I’d love to seen actual notes from the time on the reason for the rankings.

 

Gene Tunney has virtually no resume at heavyweight outside of a couple ten rounders over a well past-it and stale Dempsey, one on a rain soaked ring. As noted above, Corbett was an aerobics instructor and not a boxer for most of his gloved existence.

Liston and Wills deserve spots above half that list.

 

I have little doubt still active fighters were ranked much more harshly and given much less weight in the discussion - hence Ali. He wouldn't have yet had the third win over Frazier as well. Olivares wasn't rated at any weight, so there's that. Current fighters were glossed over.
