Who will be greater historically? Loma or GGG

I don’t mind if someone says Loma, but for me it’s GGG on the strength of the Canelo wins. Loma has more depth to his resume, but GGG showed he was “that guy” even a bit past his best. I don’t think Loma proved that in any division, especially vs a fighter like Canelo.

I don’t care if you have them for Canelo, but me and most hardcores thought GGG won both. That’s just how it is. Nothing can change it except time.

 

I’m going with Loma. Doesn’t help that GGG’s two best wins were ruled a draw and a loss. Canelo is a better scalp than Loma has, but then again Loma has a better more varied resume overall. And we actually got to see Loma looking great in his prime against good competition, whereas GGG just couldn’t get the big fights in his prime.

Very close tho.

 

If people are willing to add the Canelo fights to GGGs mantle then others can add Haney and Lopez on Lomas resume. GGG also had a razor close fight with Derevyanchenko but many think Ortiz won about 5 or 6 rounds against Loma. It's really a close comparison

 

He lost the 2nd and 3rd fights then got beat up by Sir Gay Dervychenko.

 

I was at the second GGG vs. Canelo match. The people to the right of me and us were cheering for GGG and everyone else in the area seemed to be cheering for Canelo. That was some fight.

 

But, he in fact, did not

 

I voted GGG. I am a big proponent of title defenses and title reign. GGG has that with his 20 consecutive title defenses at Middleweight.

Loma is probably the most talented modern fighter I have ever seen, but to me he is also probably the biggest disappointment even though his career was very good. I just personally expected probably too much from him. You would think that being a three weight champion would be a great achievement, but there are like 28 or so fighters that have been a four weight champion including Broner. I would have liked to see him try to be a four weight champion. There was really nothing he could have done against Salido because every seemed to cheat him that night, but against Teo and Devin he just didn't seem to have it especially against Teo.

 

Historians might say GGG for his title defense run. I say Loma. Champion in three weight classes, 2-time Olympic gold medalist. His run was impressive and he was robbed against Salido and Haney. He could have easily been undisputed at 130 but the money wasn't there. Robbed of undisputed after schooling Haney. GGG was robbed in his first two fights with Canelo, that certainly raises his stock. GGG and Loma legacies are very close but Loma was the more nuanced and complete fighter.

But skills wise? Has to be Lomachenko.

 

He only has 1 more than Monzon, while all of Monzon defences were undisputed and GGG had 9 defences of only one belt.

 

I don’t even think Loma was as skilled as a prime GGG. Others may disagree, I was never really that impressed with Lomachenko. Greer fighter maybe, but I see GGG being better historically at middleweight than Lomachenko at any of his weights he won a title in.
