Ali was not the greatest Boxer ever. Mayweather was.

I think a person had to live during Ali's reign to understand the phenomenon he was. Every time he fought the world stopped to watch him, not so much his opponent, though most of those carried their own massive aura, it just never outshone (I am) "The Greatest".

 

I don't care how good people think a certain fighter is from this era .. in my opinion NONE of them can be considered the greatest ever.. because they weren't tested like fighters from the past were!

They have significant advantages over them.. for instance pre day weigh ins, lighter hitting gloves, PEDs, lower fight frequency, more weight divisions.. they make for a more diluted & tamer sport..

Trolls like you are just blinded by the zero, you look at fighters from yesteryear see some losses & think ye they can't be all that.. you think if Floyd was fighting evey couple of weeks he wouldn't take losses under those circumstances laid out above? LOL

Walker, Charles, Duran, SRR, Armstrong, Fitz, Langford, Pep, Greb, Marciano, Louis, Wilde, Mclarnin, Ross, Canzoneri etc.. Fighters like that, those are the GOATs for me.. not some IV drip Vegas puff who moans about 2lbs or waits out his era rival for 5 years.

 

Add rounds shortened from 15 to 12 to your list of advantages. I doubt Ali ever had a 12 round world title fight.

 

Those old school era the majority of their resume is against part time boxers who work d at meat packing plants for 10.hours then trained part time as a side job vs the champ who got to box full time

Modern era champs at least they are defending against full time boxers who have a dedicated camp.
