Was Prince Naseem another Overrated hype job?

That's the thing about undisputed, it's a good accomplishment but so much of it just depends on right place right time and the ABCs playing ball

There would be a lot more undisputed champs out there the last 30 years if the ABCs treated them all the same

 

This added to his physical capacities (speed, power, accuracy, timing) and willingness to engage (confidence) made him a formidable threat for anyone. He beat up a lot of excellent fighters nobody did before or after him. He was half dead vs Barrera and still kept trying right until the end .
His immaturity cost him big in the later part of his career, but he accomplished plenty in the meantime.
Naz went into the ring with the mentality to test you and get you out of there, kill or die trying.That's very special; he easily could have developed into a safety-first (aka PBF) educated distance fighter if he wanted the money but that's just not who he was

 

On the history of boxing he stands out as a special one. The show, the style, the personality.

Few are made for pro boxing like he was. Boxing would miss a lot if he had never been

 

Good fighter but he could get out boxed why he swerved Marquez

 

Kelley was world class. And still lasted only 4 rds.

 

I’d say he was a great fighter and very entertaining however once it went to his head and he sacked Brendan Ingle he was never the same fighter again .

 

More style than substance. He lost to his only a-class opponent on Barrera. Naseem never beat anyone of note. He's still fun to watch, but I wouldn't rate him with the best.

 

I'd say both overrated and just 'good'.

An entertaining fighter with some talent at a certain level. But more style than substance when it came to greatness.

He was very fundamentally flawed, and could never mix it with the elite. Barrera showed he was far from the elites of the sport.

If he had continued instead of retiring early, multiple losses would have happened. Like imagine him against fighters like Marquez, Morales, Pacqauio, Mayweather. He would have beaten very conclusively.

 

There's much truth here.

I think Hamed was certainly physically gifted-- his power and speed were legitimate-- but he was also the beneficiary of the British hype machine and his endless capacity for self promotion.

In short, he was a good fighter but an even better marketing man.

 

bit of a physical freak. had the body control and balance of a circus gymnast. thats how he could generate so much leverage in such odd positions. acutely aware of his center of gravity at all times. but his technique was easy to exploit at elite level. at lower levels he could baffle his opponents with his unique responses. but elites who can see 2 steps ahead, had responses for his responses. the follow up counters are what naz wasnt skilled enough to deal with.
