Who was the most disappointing prospect ?

The great American hope Jared Anderson in recent time.

 

Gosh, I always remember the British HW prospect Audley Harrison. I remember when he turned pro I thought he had it all; Olympic gold, great talker, big Tv backing. I was convinced he was gonna be the next Lennox Lewis, but he never really got going.

 

Always gonna be Fransisco 'Panchito' Bojado but from that list above, I'd forgotten about Ahkmedov.

Clearly, Tony Yoka.

C'mon. He won the Olympic Gold at Super Heavyweight.

And, for a moment, there was the possibility of a French World Heavyweight Champion down the road.

Can you imagine the World Heavyweight Champion from France? It's never happened.

World Heavyweight Title fights in Paris for the first time in more than a century.

100,000 people filling the Stade de France to watch boxing.

Fury, Joshua and Wilder having to fight in Paris.

It would've been something.

I never even heard of most of the others on the list. You can't be disappointed in guys you never heard of.

 

I smell a lot of hype jobs from that list.

Everyone who had a brain knew Berlanga was all hype, he was well promoted.

Every HW that gets Olympic gold will get hype and everyone knows that. We've seen countless generational talents who've won it in Lennox Lewis (who beat Riddick Bowe in the final - even if it was probably fixed), Usyk, Klitschko, Ali.

But Yoka? The only reason hes not seen as a journeyman is because he won OIympic gold.

 

As soon as I read the thread title he was the first name that came to mind.

 

Scotty Fitzgerald is in there for me, Commonwealth Games gold medallist, a magical night when he beat that gobshite Fowler, had all the tools to be a serious contender at 154, but took the route of alcohol and drugs instead and ruined his life.

 

Egor Mekhonstev went through everyone like a hot knife going through butter at the Olympics in 2012.

Turned pro with Bob Arum and moved to the USA. Looked very impressive in his early fights as expected.

Then suddenly had a couple of off performances, including one draw. And was never seen in the ring again.

Strange and disappointing.

 

Two guys who came around the same time, had great potential, fizzled out around the same time:
Francisco Bojado
Ricardo Williams

 

Tony Yoka as an olympic medalist is an obvious choice, though a lot of people were suspicious of him from day one.

The entire 2016 olympic class have been a disappointment, with Alimkhanully’s recent doping test being the cherry on top.

I had a lot of hopes for Erickson Lubin, looked extremely good for his age when he first came up. Obviously didn’t turn out what he was hyped to be, though he still did well for himself considering his limitations.

And Jalolov has been disappointing me day in and day out.
