Overrated fights

    Fights that are well remembered/well liked but you don't fully get the appeal of.

    Off the top of my head, Foreman Vs Lyle really isn't too special to me, and most Gerald McClellan fights are pretty boring, too.

    People cannot get enough of Gatti Vs Ward I like seriously, they treat this bout as if it was the best thing ever aside from the Air Fryer

    Ali vs. Foreman was absolutely epic in its age, but not as great as people think. Full of clinching, fouls, and chaos. Also, Lewis vs. Klitschko was pretty ugly, despite the excitement.

    I agree that Ali - Foreman is mostly spectacle over substance, but I do still enjoy that one a fair bit... Just make sure nobody compares it to something like the FOTC.

    Holmes vs Norton. Everyone talks about how razor thin it is but I’ve always thought Holmes won it clear as day. Pretty sure I had it being only a couple rounds off a total shut out for Holmes. Hard to consider it a classic when it’s so one sided. Holmes vs Weaver is much better.

    Also Hagler vs Hearns. I can see the appeal but honestly I think the real reason this fight is revered is because of the spectacle of those two fighting. I’ve seen this one mentioned as a ‘fight to get people into boxing’ but that’s a terrible idea, if you don’t know the fighters, their reputations, what was at stake, then there isn’t much to the fight and again it’s one sided for Hagler.

    I've always found Gomez vs Pintor overrated. It's a great, great fight but not the top 5-10 lock I've seen others place it; and definitely not in the same tier as other fights which happened in the weeks around it like Pryor vs Arguello I & Chacon vs Limon IV.

    Ali-Foreman was more an exercise of ring improvisation/genius practiced by one fighter over another. I always enjoy it too. And,yes,the FOTC was a great fight - period.

    Pryor - Arguello itself can be a bit overrated considering it's a very one sided fight, but it is a classic for a reason. (Planned on rewatching it and the rematch today)

    Edit: Not as one sided as I remembered, but to be clear I never thought it was something like Duran - Palomino. Still a great fight.

    Never got excited about Inoue v Donaire,yes a good fight but not as good as folk make out

    I believe this post is good evidence that 'overrated' has devolved to just mean 'bad' or 'something I don't like'
