Deontay Wilder in place of Cooney Vs Holmes( 1982)?

Wilder gets schooled, it would be way less competitive. Holmes also has good recovery if things go south.

 

That Cooney busts Wilder up too.

 

Deontay can spark out anyone who ever entered a ring. And Holmes had a penchant for eating right hands. I would certainly set the odds for Holmes but I feel that Wilder would be an attractive underdog.

 

Holmes had a vulnerability to the right hand . And if the awkward Snipes could connect and put Larry on the canvas so called Wilder. Holmes had extraordinary recoverability powers and like the Shavers and Snipes fight he storms back to stop Wilder.

 

Not even that competitive. May even resemble Holmes vs Leon Spinks.

 

Wilder would be more of a threat in one regard, his only weapon comes from the side more dangerous to Holmes. The blueprint here is that Wilder has already shown he can't finish high level heavyweights that can get off the canvas and win...........twice. Holmes is exactly that, like Fury. Fury getting out of trouble reminded me a lot of Holmes. Getting up from that big right hand in the first fight was unreal, and then he was back on top by the end of the same round after Wilder didn't look like finishing him. It was extremely Holmesque.

At best Wilder drops him and has the highlight moment. At the end of the fight it's not his hand being raised tho. Wilder tended to gas when he failed to finish guys and if he did that against Holmes he might get stopped IMO.

 

One can fight, one can’t. Awful mismatch really.

 

I would predict a Holmes win. But not by a cake walk. Wilder had a vicious right hand, solid chin and excellent committing. Holmes would outbox him but he’d get nailed hard in that fight

Stop what? Tell me whats insane about thinking prime Cooney beats Wilder.

 

Cooney wasn't as good as Wilder and if they switched places, I doubt Cooney does what Wilder did in his era. Although I think Wilder falls to 1983 Holmes.
