David Benavidez vs Zurdo Ramirez official for May 2

Why?

Ramirez is nothing special, never understood what people saw in him. Can't chase Bivol if you can't beat Ramirez.

 

You sort of missed the part where Bivol dropped his belt and refused to fight him and is instead fighting a can. Beterbiev has no belts and is coming off a loss. He ran out of options sadly.

When top fighters like Canelo, Inoue, Bam, Shakur, move up a division they basically get a title shot instantly. Its coming up to 2 years now since David moved to 175 and he was still unable to fight for the title. It was 5 years at 168. Let that sink in before you ask why is he moving up and fighting Zurdo. I have never seen a top fighter blocked from title shots for so long ever.

IF Benavidez is as good as he is at LHW, I'm talking IF. Then he should have too much for Zurdo, but I think this might go to points as Zurdo is pretty tough himself.

 

No, Turdo got destroyed by Bivol. He's a ducker for a reason.

 

I feel the same. Would much prefer for opetaia to get the ramirez fight. But one has to ask why saudi money isn't put up for that.

The sheik went from putting on the best fights to playing boxing politics and the fighters went to waiting for the saudi paydays. So all in all now the sheiks influence already seems very negative

 

Bivol is busy aging out Beterbiev. And the rest of the division are prospects. Gilberto is an ex LHW champ whose only loss was to Bivol. So this fight actually does something for Benavidez's 175 legacy.

Ironically the other 175 interim champ is another Ramirez. But hes not as compelling a fight.

Being outclassed by Bivol is nothing to be ashamed of, he is consensus top five P4P after all. Ramirez seems to have come into his own at Cruiserweight, outclassing Billiam-Smith and beating (an albeit aged) Dorticos. In contrast we have no idea how Benavidez will fill out at Cruiserweight, heck he has only recently moved up to LHW. Benavidez couldn't put a dent into Gvozdyk at LHW (and in my view lost the majority of the second half of the fight), whilst he needed to land an insane volume of punches to stop Yarde by attrition; given his power isn't anything to write home about at LHW, I don't see him getting Zurdo's respect at CW.

 

You might be right. I guess my stance stems from me being unimpressed by most boxers these days. I never rated Ramirez highly in the past, and a lot of people seems to think Benavidez is the second coming... I don't really see it, but I don't think he is bad by any means either.

 

This will look like the Garcia and Barrios fight. Fast hand and better boxing skill will beat the slower less skill big guy.

 

Ramirez proving once and for all time that he is ducking Opetaia and is boxing’s biggest coward.

I hope Benavidez caves his cranium in for him.
