Which fight was more competitive; Sullivan-Corbett or Jeffries-Johnson?

It's easily John L Sullivan he actually won some rounds between 10-14th. It was after the 15th that he really fell apart. Jeffries won zero rounds past 10th doubtful he won any earlier rounds either.

It's a non contest who was more faded. It was far & away Jeffries. Jeffries said he felt good until they moved the fight to reno, not sure what happened to him but they put him in dry climate & 100+ temps that really did him in he said...as he said he had no energy post venue movement. He said he hated the desert temps. Which to be fair does suck.

 

I’d need to watch Sullivan-Corbett to make a choice here.

 

There's round by round of every big fight that happened in history all the way back to Larry Foley & Peter Newton for the first gloved bout in 1878. Sullivan vs Corbett was pretty new in 1892. You can certain almost score a fight with the detail in the round by round accounts. The newspaper will usually give you odds, what the ref thought sometimes & general consensus. Even exterior events. Like Creedon & Greggains the crowd outside the venue was trying to bust down the door causing ruckus in the fight because of the noise.

The 1890's were pretty new to me. I don't view 1900 as much different. By 1885 thanks to Australia boxing exploded with extremely large boxing birth classes. By 1890 the entire 1880's movement had it set up for the best decade in boxing of that century.

John L Sullivan did better than getting his ass kicked. He was doing the stalking throughout...He wasn't really getting outboxed.
He ran out of gas and things went south fast for him. But he was doing alright past the 10th it was slight advantage Corbett just because he was much quicker. Corbett only had a few clear wins in rounds pre round 13 or so.

If Corbett vs Sullivan was a 12 round bout and Sullivan didn't have to save himself so much it would of been a close fight. Closer than you think.

Sullivan went out like a bulldog it wasn't that disgraceful to me. Time warped into something bigger than it was. People only remember the ending the most...
