Who is the face of boxing? There is no face of boxing atm

LOL . Maybe the face of non boxing .

 

None at the moment, the last one was Usyk. Crawford never really was imo. Maybe for about 2 minutes after he beat Canelo and before he retired.

Usyk- too old, inactive
Canelo - too old, too beatable
Shakur - Not there yet, possibly in future
Inoue- Out of the boxing eye being from Japan, also small divisions he fights in doesn’t help
García - Not likeable enough, hasn’t done enough either, bit of a clown
Bivol-Being Russian doesn’t help, over the hill
Beterbiev - Same as above but more so

I think one* of the issues with boxing at the minute is it’s pretty much all behind paywalls, there is no casual exposure any more, you only see boxing, and therefore it’s stars, if you go looking for it or more importantly subscribing to it, ask random members of the public who are the current boxing stars are they wont have a clue- 4/5 years ago that would be very different

From a commercial perspective only, it’s unironically Jake Paul, every fight he does has huge numbers and is a sellout event

From a “traditional” perspective, it’s been vacant since Canelo lost to Bivol in 2022

Inoue and Shakur have the p4p elite talent but they’re unlikely to be huge commercial crossover stars. Ryan Garcia is the opposite, he has millions of followers and a huge name but doesn’t have the p4p elite talent.

Unless Shakur can massively raise his profile, then there may not be a true face of boxing for years

 

Still Canelo he's still the biggest draw I can see Ryan taking over with a few good wins

Could you define what you mean by the term please?

 

Right now it is fair to say that there is not a globally recognized superstar so I think the key is that the face of boxing is different in different areas of the world. Inoue, I would think is the face of boxing in Asia while for quite a few years it was Fury in Europe. Now it may be Usyk. With Alvarez on the way out I don't think the United States currently has someone as it's face, American or otherwise.

 

No one is.

But it should be Usyk. He's gone way over and beyond what it takes to become the face of the sport with his achievements. And his personality and morals should be known worldwide to non-boxing fans, he's a truly great man inside and outside of the ring, a one off, a real role model.

 

That's not how it works. The "Face of boxing" is nothing more than a popularity contest. And losses or not, Canelo is still highly popular.
