Who would be the least difficult opponent for Gennady Golovkin: Hopkins, Toney, Ward, Monzon, Hagler

He would give them all a good fight. But, i don't see Golovkin beating any of these men.

 

Kind of depends on the weight the fight is at. Ward would want it at 175. At 175 Golovkin will struggle. Hagler would want a same day weight in and Monzon too. Again, I think Golovkin won't be nearly as happy with that.

So the guys with the same weigh ins would be Toney and Hopkins. Out of those two in real world conditions I reckon Toney is easier because he was more inconsistent. Golovkin would mangle a flat version of Toney. On the other hand an absolute best version of Toney vs best Hopkins 160 version maybe Toney is better. So under fantasy H2H rules, where it is best version vs best version, the easiest challenge for GGG would be Hopkins. Easy being a relative term, here.

 

Monzon, I think.

 

Andre Ward.
The only fighter on your list who's not an ATG.
Ward and Triple G are about the same level .
Good in there era's but that's it.

Maybe Toney because he had the worst stamina out of everyone on the list and fought in spots. But honestly, he loses to everyone on that list without question IMO.

 

Probably Ward, then Toney. I'd take Toney over him.

 

@MarkusFlorez99 This thread should have a poll. It's a good question.

When watching Golovkin's first bout with Canelo Alvarez I realized that Golovkin was not very creative. If what he didn't wasn't working his main option was to try the same thing again. He would have needed creativity to beat Hopkins, Toney or Ward. The three of them were unorthodox, to say the least.

GGG would have been at a severe reach disadvantage against Monzon and those were the kind of fighters Escopeta feasted upon. So, I guess his best chance would have been against The Marvelous One. Hagler would also have a reach advantage over Golovkin but his style of fighting did not usually take advantage of his reach. This would have been a pretty fierce battle and Golovkin would have have hit Marvin but I think Golovkin was too slow and would have been worn down by Hagler over time.

So I think GGG would have lost to all of them but the best chance of victory would have been against Hagler.

Have to go with Toney.

GGG's atg chin and absolute ramrod jab would give him issues as Golovkin was willing to take one or two in order to land his own.

Throw on top of that James inconsistencies and it would be a hell of a fight.

 

GGG is a very good fighter no doubt. I really don't see him beating anyone on this list. If I had to pick one, I guess it would be Hopkins. Monzon was a busy fighter. He was as fresh in the 15th round as he was in the first. Hagler would counter him to death. An in-shape Toney would beat his brains out. GGG is very good but not an all-time great.
