Jeff Harding got an ok ride out of not that much. He was tough, durable and incredibly determined tho.

 

Ray Mancini too. He could fight some, absolutely, but he was a media pet and fought well below his reputation at one point.

Good fighter tho, but not commensurately to his status.

 

Jake Paul? It’s doubtful anyone made more with less.

Bob Hoskins, the light minnelweight champion of the world, famous only for fighting while old, bald and toothless, after a prison sentence for armed punchery, even leveraging it into a planned win against Oscario Delacroixa, former super weltenweight framption of the world and later member of The Green Mile Dancing Nancy Team. Hoskins was also the regular chunnelweight unified champion, but lost the title to one of The Jackson Five-Jerry Mayne, a former tailor at DS9. He also defooted another of the Jackson Five named Tito. No one ever heard of these guys until they started a promotions company called 'Goldmen & Roy L.L.P.' together and began to promote superstar Rattan Gracia, one the jujitsu Gracia brothers, the ones who grapple...men. It's hard to know what to make of any of it.

 

That's my first thought too. He's made more in boxing than everyone else on this thread combined, without any sort of amateur career or previous fighting background.

 

Ruiz had a decent amateur career and he has exceptionally fast hands/fast twitch muscle for a heavyweight. He also was outboxing Evander Holyfield in sparring when he was a teenager.

 

Jeff Horn. He roughed up Pacquiao to win the lineal welterweight title.

 

Wild Bill Hanrahan.

 

Highly skilled and very talented. It's the intangibles that he lacked.

 

The answer that we always recirculate is "Eddie Gazo".

How this guy won a 154 lb title from anybody is a complete and bewildering mystery. Go watch his title win and you'll see at his best that he was less than a bunch of forgotten ESPN main eventers from the early 80's that we've long forgotten about. Then watch him against Thomas Hearns and you'll wonder how he ever even reached main event status anywhere for any reason. Truly an enigma.
