Marciano gets poleaxed. Foreman 6'3, 250 pounds, 79 inch reach vs Marciano 5'10, 185 pound, 67 inch. A total mismatch. I see Alex Stewart get brought up but he was 6'3 with a 78 inch reach and he boxed on the backfoot after getting dropped twice early. Marciano is a swarmer who overwhelms his opponents he cannot box on the backfoot with his T-Rex arms and his style. Foreman even in 1997 would bust up Marciano with his jab and catch him coming in with his uppercuts. How in the world is Marciano going to walk down an opponent who outweighs by near enough 70 pounds who's way stronger and physically bigger ? Nothing against Marciano it's just an unfair match up for him size wise.
I appreciate George Foreman but Old George is a bit of a myth. Other than his one-punch stunner in a fight he was on the way to losing against Michael Moorer, Foreman did not fare too well against the top guys he fought. He had wide points losses to Holyfield and Morrison and won a razor thin majority decision against Alex Stewart. George was at the end of the line in 1997 and I think prime Rocky would have found a way to beat the very slow moving essence of a great fighter.
'97 Foreman was having back-and-forths with journeymen. His punching power was almost entirely gone at this point, and he was moving with the agility of a war veteran. All he had left was a stiff jab. I don't even like the guy but Marciano would absolutely school this version of Foreman in the pocket, he'd duck and roll with everything and land 20+ punches on him in one go, and I don't think Foreman's size and reach advantage will help simply because of how much faster and more athletic a 32 year old Marciano would be in comparison.
Swarmers do well vs boxers. Frazier, Marciano and Dempsey give Ali problems. Sluggers do well vs swarmers. Foreman does well vs Marciano.
