Which is the toughest fight for Louis?

Probably Moorer. His southpaw stance, hard right jab, and power would be a challenge. Spinks is without question the best fighter out of the three but Moorer is a very different fighter than anyone Louis ever fought. I'm not saying Moorer necessarily beats Louis, I'm just saying he would be a difficult opponent.

 

While we have tons of film on Louis, I think we would know much more about him if he had fought Ezzard Charles when Joe was in his prime instead of when he was washed up. Charles shared a few of Billy Conn's traits but was better and hit harder. We saw Billy handle Louis for 12 rounds. Might Ezz have done even better and whipped Joe?

 

Spinks. Fought and defeated better opponents and the best all around fighter of the three.

 

Spinks because of his style and he has enough power to hurt Louis, on the other hand I can see an argument for Moorer as he's a southpaw and could crack at heavyweight, perhaps harder than Spinks. But Spinks was so unorthodox in the way he moved and he definitely wouldn't stand in front of Louis. Moorer might stand in front of Louis.

Weaver was physically the most powerful of the 3, but he's the type of heavyweight that Joe Louis hunted for sport.

 

Michael Spinks. He's barely ever going to stay still and Louis will have to work and bide his time in tracking him down. Spinks could sneak punches in from all angles as well, I can see him being a pain in the backside for as long as he lasted.

Louis would line up the flat footed and chinny Moorer.

 

Moorer. He was the biggest of the three and he was a southpaw. But there is caveat attached to that: He was a right handed southpaw. And Moorer, after a couple tough outings at heavyweight, quit being the seek and destroy guy that he was as a 210 pound "light heavyweight."
i have never in my life understood how and why people think that Spinks was somehow "unpredictable" or erratic in his movement. Dude was textbook in almost everything he did. He confused Larry Holmes with it because Larry didn't know how to chase people; he was always the mover until he got old and faced a smaller guy.

 

Possibly Moorer as Louis got schooled by a Light Heavyweight southpaw in sparring and then vowed to never fight a southpaw apparently.

I think Spinks would also give Louis problems with his movement and tricky style.

 

I think on their best nights all three of them could have given Joe Louis a decent fight but all three ultimately lose. Mike Weaver might actually be the most vulnerable given his tendency to start slow.
