Is this just a fight from that time period?

    Or an actual hypothetical rematch?

An actual rematch would have made a huge difference.

The Tony Thompson fight proves Wlad gets canvasd a second time.

If geriatric Tony can out land WK in every punch category for 8-9 rounds , Sanders can do the same.
The difference is Wlads chin shatters when Sanders hits him.

I was under the impression that this was an actual hypothetical rematch. Are you going to say there is some psychological trigger that would be difficult for Wlad to overcome?

I don't understand what you are getting at. Both Thompson fights weren't close and they both had the same conclusive result.

    100%

How could they not have been?

He was demolished in just a few rounds.

It’s the reason why he fought Povetkin and Haye so cautiously.

Wladimir was a more aggressive fighter when Sanders fought him so if Wladimir was going to land a big punch it more than likely would've happened then.

Compared to the more cautious Wladimir when he went with Steward.

You make it sound so simple that all Wladimir has to do is survive the first few rounds vs Sanders. You're talking about stylistically a bad match up for Wladimir against an opponent with blazing handspeed, aggression, and real power to hurt him, aswell as being a Southpaw.

It's not going to be that simple for Wladimir just to get out of the first few rounds. Sanders will be all over him putting pressure on him that Wladimir isn't used to.

And how in the world could Sanders be considered lucky ? He was arguably past his prime when he beat Wladimir. He was in his late 30s and he absolutely demolished Wladimir in 2 rounds knocking him down 4 times in the process.

I don't see how that is considered lucky.

Not quite. If it was Wlad in his prime he will spend some time breaking down and mauling opponents, landing the big shot in mid-late rounds. He controlled the distance better than he did in 2003, so he may have Sanders tired, just like Vitali had him, and since he had way more power than his brother, atually finish him off.

"Breaking down and mauling opponents landing the big shot in the mid to late rounds"

And there's lies the issue Wladimir isn't going to have that luxury to take his time Sanders will be all over him and will finish him again in the early rounds.

Everyone has a bad style match up and Sanders is a bad style match up for Wladimir.

Yeah it wasn't lucky no one else in nearly 70 pro fights spanning till 41 did that to Wlad.

Hey pig trotter , i only mentioned the first fight. Who cares about the rematch , nobody did at the time. A terrible title defence.

Tony was old even in the first one - 38.
He gave Klitschko hell. Out landed him in all 3 punch category. This is because Wlad was mostly holding and spoiling due to Tonys slickness

A very frustrated and bloodied Wlad was holding onto Thompson even when his back was turned

You know exactly what im getting at.
If Thomson can land so easily , then so can Sanders.

Futhermore , Sanders wasn't even prime when he blitzed Wlad.

If you want to take a better Wlad then you also have to take a better Sanders from the early 90's.

I 100% agree that Sanders is a terrible match up for Wlad, I'm just not counting out prime Wlad completely.

I'm sure it would be difficult, but in 2010 Manny was in his corner and if there is anyone that could forget about the 1st fight it would be Manny.

Wlad had beaten a bunch of southpaws by that point. I think he’d probably find a way.

Wlad just needs to tie up for 3 rounds and wait for Sanders to fade.

Simple enough gameplan but I'm not convinced he could pull it off against the fast, rangy Sanders.
