Is Calzaghe's win over Jeff Lacy more impressive than Crawford's win over Canelo

Because Kessler was a brilliant boxer, who was levels above Canelo. Sure, he lost to Joe, Ward and Froch, but so would Canelo. Which would bring his unofficial tally of losses, alongside Mayweather, Bivol, Bud, GGGx2, Lara and Trout to 10.

No, you're not being trolled. Your absurd hatred for Calzaghe has short circuited your the prefrontal cortex and rendered you irrational, illogical and unreasonable on this particular subject.

    Absurd hatred?

    Really??

If I’m not being trolled, you should be worried about your own well-being.

Kessler was never a brilliant boxer, and was never levels above any version of Canelo.

Of course he was, he lost to 3 all time greats, and one of them only after he was a shot shell of a fighter. Kessler's victory over Froch alone is more impressive than anything Canelo has accomplished.

    Ha!

    Come on man.

I liked Kessler. But he was never great. He never beat any great fighters.

He was not levels above Canelo. That’s ridiculous.

Also, I’d seriously question you thinking that Carl Froch was an ATG fighter.

HOF if you wish. But not ATG.

It’s even debatable if Joe and Andre are true ATG’s.

fair to a point but the fights coming up before the calzaghe fight were pretty amazing wins the problem was that almost all of lacy's title fights his opponents were in a career cul-de-sac. vanderpool was the canadian roy jones, had a good but sluggish go against hopkins, and lacy took him apart. retired soon after.
shieka, ESPNS fav super middleweight who "looked like DLH and fought like Chavez" or was just a good looking amatuer who was not as talented as was previously thought.
you had Lacy absolutely obliterating Robin Ried. calzaghe's closest fight, long time world champion and contender, should have a win agaisnt ottke....destroyed.

now....im not saying he is in any hall of fame. BUUUT, at the time he was beating former champions, great and solid gatekeepers and up and coming prospects.

it isnt the calzaghe loss that exposed and destroyed his career. his left shoulder seperated after the tsypko fight and his lost his jab and left hook. which for him was like being a 'one legged man in a ass kicking contest'. had he been able to keep his power and speed in his left hand he might have been able to be part of the super 6 or get a mikkel fight. but it was too late and too soon for him. also...he said himself that he wanted to get a title at 160. which i think was just a way to keep away from hopkins.

though saying this all. his skills were primitivish. overhand right was bowled like anything. his defence was poor and static, he actually seemed to improve when he moved up to 175 he slipped better and was better when he fought more side on than being square on.

Canelo hadn't stopped anyone in four years

    The fighters he couldn't stop

Bumlangy who got KTFO by Sheeraz in 5 rounds in his backyard

Mung who got one punch KTFO in 6 by featherfisted French pastry chef Surface who sports a revolting subhuman KO 19% or 5 KOs in 29 fights

William Scull who was badly hurt and nearly KO'd by a jab in his previous fight by Shishkin who was robbed blind, and was knocked out and completely dominated in his very next fight after Clenelo looked terrible him by an unheralded prospect no one even in his own household knew and who could only amass a KO 55% or even less despite fighting bums for the most part at prospect level

Juan Ryder who was bounced up and down off the canvas like a yoyo and stopped by Mung

The opponents of Clenelo's who weren't subsequently stopped by complete featherfists, padded record hype jobs, and fighters coming off losses to much smaller fighters

A shot 40 y/o GGG who retired and never fought again

Jermello who hadn't fought in 16 months IIRC and hasn't fought since

Bivol, obviously no shame in that one

Even the last guy Clenelo did stop Plant was dropped and badly hurt early by a club fighter and then was badly hurt numerous times almost dropped by a cherryp8ck who was supposed to make him look good. Plant only survived against Benavidez because he held like crazy all night and he could easily be 0-3 in his last 3 has the bell not come to his rescue vs the club fighter

Clenelo was an elite fighter who couldn't even get a single one of his cherry picks out of there in four years. A four year KO drought vs hand-picked opponents sans Bivol whilst campaigning in a graveyard division and most of said cherrypicks were subsequently dominated and KTFO by featherfists, glass-jawed hype jobs, padded record hype jobs, and unheralded prospects all of whom were far from elite. The only reason Clenelo held all those belts was because 168 was a graveyard division at the time and he ducked his #2 like crazy for years and the rematch vs Bivol both of who are actually elite

Elite active fighters do not go on four year KO droughts vs cherrypicks most of whom were subsequently dominated and knocked out by C and D levels if they're still elite and aren't featherfists

And FTR I'm not comparing Clenelo and Lacy

I guess it sort of depends on how you look at it

Lacy was a young, undefeated titleholder with lots of promise and punching power. The fight was a big deal at the time and turned into a whitewash coming out party type of performance for Calzaghe that spring-boarded him into huge fights. Not very different from say Ricky Hatton who was undefeated and unknown in the US but had a big domestic following and had a breakout performance against Tzyu and parlayed that into bigger fights in the US

I think its obvious that Canelo is a greater fighter than Jeff Lacy, he has accomplished way more and would probably beat Jeff Lacy. That said, Canelo was past his best when Crawford beat him. Crawford did come up in weight and that was a big deal and he had a dominant performance as well, way more dominant than I had expected.

I still lean toward Crawford's win being more impressive and more important

Of course Calzaghes win was the more impressive

Lacy would likely have gone on to be the greatest American SMW if he hadn't run into late in career Calzaghe
Taking the amount of fights Lacy had had when facing Calzaghe, compared to other American SMWs that are remembered
Lacy overall had fought at a higher level than all of the others, had more World title fights and wins than
Jones, Toney, Nunn, Brewer, Ward, Liles, Mitchell, Johnson, Holmes,
    To give you an example

I think the point has been made and requires no further discussion

It’s hard for me to rate Canelo due to the corrupt judges and referees he benefited from throughout his career.

Yes, Calzone's win was more dominant, but it was a strange bout, with the referee breaking them apart almost 3 times per minutes

Much of Canelo's "greatness" is a result of his 168 reign.... Froch had a much stronger 168 reign than Canelo... Carl Froch earned the right to be called an ATG at 168, and he earned it the hard way, facing the best competition he could at every turn.
