Prime Joe Louis Vs. Rocky Marciano (Joe Louis fight)

Prime Louis absolutely destroys him. Ultra washed out Louis had a few good moments in the fight, I have no doubt he would have beat the **** out of Rocky in his younger years. There was a right hand in like round 6 or something that if he was just a little bit faster or threw it a little bit earlier it would have connected and it was one of those shots that just looks like if it landed it would’ve been vicious. Louis really only had his jab by the end, his reaction time and quality use of other punches had dropped significantly, if he had his full kit I have no doubt he could have and would have stopped Marciano

 

Unless Louis placed some great emphasis on their fight would have to figure Louis doesn’t do as well as he could in their first encounter. He was always much better in the 2nd fight. Therefore I think Rocky survives and loses a unanimous decision. The second fight he gets dominated and KOd about 6 th round. It’s like Godoy who was crowding pressure fighter coming in low Rocky’s toughness and determination allows him to survive in the first fight. Louis had trouble with that style.

 

There is maybe a 20% chance that Marciano stops Louis. But an 80% chance that Louis is simply going to unload so many devastating punches in combination that even Marciano's underappreciated awkward defensive maneuvers (he did have them and they weren't always easy to adjust to without taking the terminal return fire) has no chance to start working before his face is completely obliterated. No doubt Marciano will likely land and hurt Louis, but a prime Louis is going to rabidly and rapidly get off first like most of us unfortunately started off doing for at least the first three years into our own competitive journeys and that will make the difference.

Louis, but it's still 60-40 Joe admitted he never liked being crowded and even at his best Marciano would be a hard fight.

Rewatch the Rocky Louis. Joe had no right hand. Then watch the 2 nd Abe Simon Louis fight. See those right hands and imagine poor Rocky eating those against a prime Louis.

I pick Louis ultimately by stoppage but Louis has his work cut out for him.

 

Louis beats him to a pulp and stops him around 8 or 9.

 

I pick Joe but not nearly so much as anyone is saying. We have to remember that this is the guy who was dropped by Galento and Braddock, and Rocky is an extremely live dog.
