I think a lot of people forget that the reason Sanders had so much success in the first fight was because Wlad didn’t clinch at all when Sanders rushed him and had no real way to keep him at range. Prime Wlad had the tools to deal with that. Also people don't mention that Sanders never one-shot Wlad, most of the damage came when Wlad stayed in range and let Sanders follow up which prime Wlad would never do.

By 2010 Wlad had much better defense, far better range management with the jab, and was much more willing to clinch when opponents tried to close distance. That version of Wlad was much better at controlling the pace of a fight and not letting opponents build momentum.

Sanders would still be dangerous early because of his speed and power, and he might even have some success or score a knockdown. But prime Wlad had the tools to survive those moments in ways he didn’t in their first fight. If he gets through the early rounds (which is a reasonable assumption to make imo) I think his control, jab, and size advantage would start to take over once Sanders slows down.

    Also a fair post.

Sanders is my man but I like Wlad a lot too. I don't think clinching would really be the solution against Sanders because he did most of his best work at range too. I think Wlad's better distance control and improved jab would be more useful to him.

Wlad is never going to fare well against a hard punching heavyweight that actually takes it to Wlad. He never did.
