My position is Louis was bigger than the average light heavyweight but could fight there if he chose to do so because that's just what the evidence shows. He's not precluded from fighting there any more than Callum Smith and Benavidez.

He wouldn't be an extreme outlier just bigger than average. Sort of like Michael Moorer

What evidence? Provide primary sources, as I have. Are you always this ineffective at arguing your position?

You need to provide primary sources of multiple fighters weighing in at or below 175lbs and rehydrating to over 200lbs on fight night, to substantiate your claims.

You won't be able to do this, because there aren't multiple examples, for reasons that frankly should be obvious.

To sum it up, we agree that Jones should be the prohibitive favorite.

I think we can move on now to Clay v Jones, Jr.

I pick Roy for the upset

The size difference isn't that much.

Roy at 175 is what 185 to 190 in ring and Louis was 190s to low 200s

Roy in his prime wasn't getting hit

Roy in his mid 30s when his reflexes werent as sharp was getting caught.

I feel people are just saying the words prime roy but then assigning him qualities from his mid 30s.

Louis was what a boxer puncher right? Is he a pressure fighter who is going to cut off the ring? He's going to catch roy boxing him while being far slower?

Nah I pick roy by upset and makes it look easy

Yes you’re right I was off by 5 pounds. Doesn’t change the facts that Jones could come in a solid 182 or 3 significantly heavier than Conn and at the same time was much faster and more athletic then Conn. This would be a tough fight for Louis to win but with his firepower he certainly has a chance.

Louis was all about cutting off the ring and keeping constant pressure. Have you seen him fight? He was always right there looking to make you punch so that he could counter.
RJJ, in his 'prime", was never any where close to being in the ring with a guy like Joe Louis. Nobody.
The difference between Conn and RJJ is that Conn learned how to move against very tough opposition Jones JR never had to learn how to move; look at the guys he was fighting. He was known, throughout the duration of his HBO contract, for picking the easiest fights for his guaranteed millions.
"Makes it look easy" is in the running for the most ignorant comment on this forum and the competition is tough.

Guy you really have to watch more video. Watch Conn then watch prime Jones and if you tell me Roy isn’t way faster and more athletic then you really need to go have your eyes checked. Watch the James Toney fight a great fighter and Roy dominated him. I’d pick Toney over Conn.

What about Joe's 52 KO's. What about all the KO's where he rendered contenders senseless?

Let me guess, nah no need to watch that **** just watch that one fight where he took 13 rounds to pole axe a smaller guy who shipped some fearsome blows from an ATG heavyweight puncher along the way

Louis is one of the few fighters ever who might be more twitchy than Jones. Casuals thinking he is slow. There should be a sign for Classic saying, You Need to be this Tall to Ride.

What about them? Who did Louis beat that Jones wouldn't beat? Because realistically Jones could probably beat everyone Louis beat.

Picking Louis isn't crazy here but I don't see how his resume would give anyone much confidence in him here.

Yeah a heavyweight going 14 years (a dozen as champ), 34 fights and 25 title defenses without loss by no means has the resume to exude a bit of confidence in him beating a guy that had a grand total of 1 fight at heavyweight against a non top fighter, peaked as a fighter at 168 and peaked in prime weight at an inflated 193 pounds.

Why on earth would anyone favor Joe Louis over that LOL

I don't think the heavyweights of that era were any better than the light heavyweights of Jones era.

Jones didn't fight at heavyweight due to guys like Tyson and Lewis. Baer Braddock and company don't pose the same sort of threat.

Can you say what you see on film of Braddock Baer and company that leads you to favor them over Tarver, Hill, Toney etc?

Ok so the light heavyweights Jones fought match or exceed Joe's opponents. Tarver has a winning record vs jones, BTW.

Lets have a laugh then. Let me know how the below go.

Primo vs Tarver and Hill (the one Jones beat, who was coming off a loss late career)
    Schmeling vs Tarver and Hill
    Baer vs Tarver and Hill
    Godoy vs Tarver and Hill
    Bivins vs Hill
    Charles vs Hill
Jersey Joe Walcott vs Tarver and Hill
    Conn vs Hill
Abe Simon vs Tarver and Hill
John Henry Lewis vs Tarver and Hill

It's a laugh, you state the heavyweights Louis was beating were no better than that lot yet Conn, Charles and John Henry Lewis are there of the greatest light heavyweights ever and would whoop Hill and Tarver for heavens sake lol. They couldn't carry Charles jock.

But do tell how Hill and Tarver match up all those guys. I'm sure they easily handle a 6'5+ 260 pound heavyweight champ and another who killed 2 men in the ring. Hill got outclassed by a past prime ex welter champ. Wobbled as well. He's as good as Baer, Schmeling, Charles, Walcott, Primo, Lewis and Conn tho.

Lets put on a card of victims. Tell me how many of your light heavyweights that were as good as the Louis era heavyweights prevail.

    Primo vs Tarver
    Charles vs Hill
    Buddy Baer vs Clinton Woods
    Max Baer vs Glen Kelly
    Tony Galento vs Dereck Harmon
    Abe Simon vs Eric Harding
John Henry Lewis vs David Tolesco
    Billy Conn vs Reggie Johnson
    Jim Braddock vs Richard Frazier
    Tommy Farr vs Otis Grant
