ZUFFA Boxing signs multi-year broadcast deal with Sky Sports

A load of fights in the middle of the night for some phony belt, sky sports are really back in boxing big time!! Tbh they probably would have kept streaming their cards on YouTube in the UK without a major TV provider so lose lose for British fight fans here!!

 

At a minimum 5 cards on British soil

I'm not fussed over Dana and this project but it's hardly a lose lose situation for Sky subscribers

The youtube streaming was never gonna be here for long, it was just for awareness
If SKY didn't do the deal, somebody would have and eventually the youtube stuff stops

 

Zuffa/Sky UK

Multi-year deal.

Minimum of 5 cards per year.

First Zuffa/Sky broadcast will be Zuffa 05 on April 5th.

First full Zuffa UK card with be in May.

More Zuffa signings imminent.

Aim is to introduce more young people to boxing.

Zuffa presently targeting USA, UK, Australia, Mexico.

 

Uncle Fester is coming.

 

They'll be promoting Down Under before too long I'm sure.

 

British fans can tune in & watch the best Cruiserweight in the world do his thing.

Slow Eddie Hearn can get his pencil out & take notes on how to promote him.

 

Is he fighting someone we know?

 

I like Jai but let's see if Zuffa actually make a profit from him

 

With their financial backing, they can technically go a few years without turning a profit as a company if their strategy is “spend now, reap later,” assuming their backers have the appetite for that approach.

 

...and damage their opposition in the meantime.

 

Opetaia is exciting to watch and the only thing not to like about him from a US or UK perspective is, he comes from somewhere else.

If he was from the UK he would be recognized as the superstar he is.

 

Yes, like Netflix is doing, ironically enough, to the UFC by entering the MMA landscape through its partnership with MVP.

Is Netflix going to get much financial return from its first few MMA shows, based on how much they’re reportedly paying older former UFC stars? Probably not. But it’s staking its claim that it will be a player in that world.

 

Can't see MVP putting a dint in the UFC anytime soon.
