Mike Tysons power was hugely overrated

This. Nobody knocks out everybody. Every great puncher has a guy on his resume that they couldn't knockout or they looked bad against.

 

And that Clay guy had lead feet!

 

Yeah he got rocked pretty bad by that. Had Tyson been able to follow up with a big combination to the head I don't think he would've recovered.

 

Bonecrusher Smith was fighting very negatively, and Green was never knocked out in his career. The only stoppage loss came because Green refused to throw punches, according to BoxRec (there’s no footage of the fight, so it can’t be verified). If you think Mike Tyson wasn’t a top 10 heavyweight puncher, watch his fight with Clifford Etienne.

lol. Bonecrusher hugged all night and had a great chin. If he wasn't afraid of Tyson's power he would have gone toe to toe. Green had a great chin. Ferguson was hurt numerous times and was knocked down by a massive uppercut. He was holding on for dear life because that's all he could do not to get stopped. Ribalta had a good chin and he was pole axed before getting stopped. He was walking in post holes the rest of his career after that beating. Tucker had a great chin. Thomas had a great chin but the accumulation of bombs finally rendered him helpless. Berbick normally was very durable but he couldn't last two rounds. Holmes had never been stopped. Spinks was destroyed in 30 seconds.

Tyson did have an inability to easily break from clinches but the reason these guys were holding on for dear life was to avoid his power.

 

Tyson had power to spare. I don't recall much about the match with Bonecrusher, except for look of fear and pain in his face.

But who did he beat? I can't say that any of his victims impressed me in their fights, except maybe Razor Ruddock.

There is a sweet litttle post-fight quote from Michael Spinks that goes something like "I was never that crazy about fighting the guy". LOL

In retrospect, the Tucker fight was unfortunate. Broke his right in training but took the fight for the money. He would have been the best of Tyson's opponents.

I remember watching the Spinks fight live on close circuit in an arena in Toronto. After the fight, they lined up all the camera angles of the KO. None of them showed the punch land, except the last. A short chopping right flush to the side of Spinks head, and a collective ooooh goes up from the crowd.

 

Tyson the fighter is hugely overrated especially by casuals.

His power was legitimate though.

Power isn’t always enough though.

 

Why are you continuing with this charade?

I could nitpick some of Lennox’s opponents/wins, to question his power.

 

They do though ? Lewis would be amongst the top 10 hardest punchers at Heavyweight on most people's list.

Jesse Ferguson had his nose splattered from one uppercut from Tyson.

Mitch Green was never legitimately stopped in his career.

Bonecrusher Smith is very durable he took 300+ punches from Witherspoon in their 1st meeting without being dropped.

And Bonecrusher fought to survive against Tyson holding on like an octopus for all 12 rounds.

Which infact is a good argument in favour of Tyson's power because Bonecrusher was intimidated.

Lennox IS ONE of the hardest punchers ever.

Just like Wlad and Foreman etc.

But I could ask why Wlad couldn’t knock out Haye etc.

People feared Mike’s power, to the point where they fought him in a negative/cautious way.

You’re talking about a guy who knocked out Larry Holmes.

The only guy to ever knock him out, in a 75 fight, 20 year career.

Now if people are saying that Mike was absolutely the hardest hitting HW ever, without a doubt, then okay.

That claim could be questioned.

But he was without doubt hugely powerful.

You’ve been given enough examples by everyone.

His power wasn’t overrated.

Again, anybody can nitpick, without allowing for the stylistic match ups etc.
