Duran, for whatever reason, decided he wants to emulate, say Locches style for a fight. Perhaps he fights Niccolino himself and wants to try to beat him at his own game. Duran the master boxer, how much could he look like Locche if he wanted to? Or would he look a bit silly trying to fight in such a way ?
He was a brilliant defensive fighter, but he also created offense off his defense. That’s one way he’s superior to Locche.
He’d have excelled. His defence was brilliant as an attacking fighter to begin with. If he focused on just defence and neglected his attacking instincts he wouldn’t be as great but he’d have been near impossible to hit solid. Duran’s natural boxing talent was as good as anyone’s and better than 99% before, during and after.
Duran had 119 fights with no signs of brain damage. And that is somewhat possible without having proper defense? Duran had excellent defense, as he looked like he was getting hit,but he was EXACTLY out of the way for the punch not to hit. I saw him fight Ray in Montreal again recently and other fights like Barkley, and I was actually surprised at how little he got hit. It's just that when he slips something, it is not a BIG slip or a lean back like Ali does. You just SLIGHTLY miss him. I can't imagine what that must be like for the opponent,how mad they woudl be
