Isn't there some regulation in USA where you have to have at least 5 amateur fights and have a winning record to be eligible for licencing as a pro boxer?

 

Totally agree, men watching women's boxing are dodgy. I don't want to watch women hurt each other, not saying they shouldn't... but I'm not watching it.

 

That's horrible. 19 years old and already put into a coma. I hope she fully recovers and quits for good. Just another reminder how dangerous boxing is and that it isn't for everyone. I'm not against women's boxing but there needs to be some kind of requirement that doesn't lead to bad mismatches and also ensuring the safety of their fighters.

 

It's not ProBox's fault. Promotions are more or less forced now to include Soccer Mom executions or they are threatened with being considered politically undesirable. And given the tiny, inexpert, and often aged talent pool it's inevitable that there will be a mishap or two. What is surprising is that it was a young fighter - usually they are the ones doing the damage, instead of taking it.

Oh geez, I don't care what people do, but that doesn't mean I have to rubber stamp what they do as just fine .Watching women fight? Real men for ages would not even allow such a thing to occur must less watch it! This just proves what a recent study showed,,20 year olds today have half the testosterone a 20 year old had in 1970...and I believe it...Hmm?, when were you born?

 

1993. I'm guessing you think women should stay at home to look after the kid and have their man's tea ready when they get home from their big masculine job, hmm?

If that's what testosterone and being a "real man" is all about, no thanks.

It's an ugly thing to weaponize such a tragedy to voice one's unpopular opinions.

If you argue that the danger for women is too great, you're not far away from banning boxing outright. Many men died over the years so consequently boxing is too dangerous for men, too.

Either you want to live in a world where people are free to choose that kind of danger for themselves or not. Freedom or guiderails. I guess most here are for freedom. But not for women? That's telling.

The worst thing about this is, that it takes focus away from the individual tragedy and instead of focussing on that, you guys start making a general case against what this young woman decided to do with her life, using her tragedy against what she stands for. This is disrespectful, appalling behavior.

I hope she recovers as well as possible and all the best to her family and those close to her.

 

No it wasn't. Neither of them are that experienced. They weighed in the same. It was fine. If she'd not been knocked out or had been but hadn't suffered any serious injury, no one would be bringing up the matchmaking whatsoever.

Now, THIS is absolutely disgusting matchmaking. A gal who they invented five wins for who looks awkward just standing in the ring against a gal who is a belt holder and a legit boxer.

Sad news, I hope she makes a speedy and complete recovery

When I first read the story and saw the video I really wondered if she had a pre-existing condition. Most tragedies in the ring are deep into a fight where dehydration and exhaustion play a factor and there is an accumulation of blows often accompanied by a hard fall and the head hitting the mat.

This was early in the fight and yes there were a few extra blows on a fighter out on their feet but there was not the hard fall to the ground. I guess this all goes to serve as a reminder that boxing is an incredibly dangerous activity and even in this well regulated and monitored time for the sport these types of tragedies are unavoidable. It makes you really have to admire or respect anyone that gets in there. I know we all get carried away and mock or insult certain fighters but this is the risk they all take

 

Well said. I've got no issue with people saying they don't enjoy watching women's boxing because of the quality of the fights, and the lack of power. I've always said it tends to be very hit-and-miss. You either seem to get one-sided snorefests or absolutely thrilling wars. Very rarely an in-between.

But some of the comments above I find very backwards, and troubling. It comes off as certain men seeing women as delicate little flowers who must be protected from any danger. And saying men are dodgy for watching women's boxing? In what way? How do these people come to those conclusions? It says a lot more about them. And I'm someone who would describe themselves as anti-woke.

 

Best advice for all kids is to stick to light sparring and bags etc unless you have the natural gifts to make big money in the sport.

If it's morally wrong to watch women box then it's morally wrong to watch men box, too. Specifically targeting women's boxing is just flat out sexism.

 

Yep, there's no getting away from it. It's a 1940s attitude. They probably love the movies where the knight in shining armour comes to save the woman. Like I say, I understand people finding women's boxing boring to watch (sometimes), but that's clearly not what these people are saying.

I know it's MMA, but the best UFC fight I ever watched was Zhang vs Jedrzejczyk (granted I've only been watching since 2018 haha). I'll never forget the euphoria from watching that fight, it was absolutely nuts from start to finish. I almost lost my head, and my voice. Absolutely incredible. Anybody who watched that and then said women shouldn't fight, I have no words.
